Same here...what a coincidence. She seemed very supportive and a good fit for Moni -at least based on today's match.
There's a recent interview with Monica Niculescu (after the AO14), unfortunately for you guys it's only in Romanian, where she says that they intend to play more doubles together in the future. Their first appearance together as a team happened last year and was a last minute decision: Monica found herself without a partner, learned that Kookie was also looking for a partner to play Eastbourne, she called her and asked if she would be willing to play doubles together, Kookie agreed immediately and Monica signed them up 15 minuted before the deadline. They were the last direct acceptance on the MD and they went on to reach the final of that Premier event
And then the titles in Shenzhen and Hobart in early January, and now two incredible wins in Paris. Chapeau, girls!
MN: How does it feel to be a national hero? IB: First of all, I want to thank all my fans and especially all my 485 followers on twitter for your loyal support through good and bad times. And then of course another thank you to the federation who nominated me for this event, even though my latest results have been disappointing. MN: Tell me more about your matches. IB: I played two deciding rubbers in doubles against Hungary and Great Britain. I played very well there. That forehand slice was on fire, as well as the moonballs. The other girls had no clue what hit them. MN (awkwardly whispering): I was asking you how your game was working. IB: Oh yeah ... it was good. MN: How will you celebrate this victory? Are you going to rock the 'cheering hands' again? IB: The 'cheering hands' did their job. I will have a small drink and then get ready for my next tournaments. WTA's newcomer of the year 2011 is back.
It's Mattek-Sands. Played good. Bouchard looked a little tired. Monica can beat her.
The bandwagoners looking for excuses on GM . She looked tired indeed and traveled but tell that to : Cirstea, Wickmayer, Knapp, Zakopalova, Safarova, Cepelova, Rybarikova, Stosur etc. etc. (who won their matches and also played on Sunday)
