Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu

Obviously this result sucks but it's kind of relief as well for me. Hampton has so much potential and it's reassuring to see that she can deal with tricky players like the Queen. I want both girls in the top 20

Yeap, and that after a good 2012 doubles season for them. But maybe they had some differences and decided it's for the better not to play doubles anymore

Monica seems to like to play the field with her doubles partners. I don't think she will ever settle down with just one partner sometimes.

Seriously, I think Monica has probably had more doubles partners in the last 5 years than anyone in the top 100. If not she sure must be very close.

WTA Monterrey, Main Draw

(6)Wickmayer v Savinykh
Niculescu v Date-Krumm
Babos v (wc)Ana Sofia Sanchez
Sirotkina v (4/wc)Ivanovic

Could have been better, but could have been much worse.
At least one of Chris' faves will prevail.

Hate this draw more than I can say. I really think both are playing well enough that with reasonable draw they could both have had good results here. As it is one of them will get bumped in the 1st round. Totally sucks. This will probably be the one time this year that I will be rooting against Monica. Monica has another 7 or 8 years in the game but Kimiko.... So I always have to root for Kimiko whenever she draws another of my faves. But this is just awful.

The one positive, the winner really should beat Wickmayer who has been struggling all year.

She's 0-1 against Kimiko (2010 Canadian Open Rd64: 67(4) 64 26).

BARBIE
is coming for your towel, too.

I'm all in for Monica, Kimiko won a three setter in Montreal against Monica a couple of years ago, she had her share, now it's Monica's time!

Too bad Kimiko had to retire, but I'm happy for Monica!

2nr round vs. Wickmaier? Tough mission
She lost both previous meetings

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu

Wickmayer is more than vulnerable these days and pretty much loses every match against a defensively skilled opponent. Monica has definitely a shot in this meeting. The courts suit her game style perfectly.

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu

I too have big expectations from Monica and I agree Wickmayer is not in the best shape lately, but that girl is a fighter. It will be a hard match imo, but I hope Monica will play at least quaterfinals here.
