Her game is so strange, but I like it when it works.

Enjoyable match, Samantha was just better in the end.

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu

Yeah, fun match.

And so...that takes us to the end of Monica's battle to defend her ranking points earned in the early part of last year. Could have gone better, could have gone worse. A tough draw at the AO didn't help. The loss to CSN in Paris wasn't great but then Carla was playing pretty well in hindsight but mostly it's been a pretty decent effort and overall I'd say Monica has probably played better this year than she did in the corresponding period last year even if she won few points.

But now we arrive at a very nice position. Monica is still top 75 and she now goes into the next 7 and a half months with just a meager 120 ranking points to defend. Yup...virtually zilch. So basically we can now sit back and watch Monica play the next few months knowing the only direction she can go with her ranking is up. If Monica can maintain her current form I'm optimistic this year could go very well. We just have to hope Monica doesn't replicate last year's 8 month WTA dead women walking routine.

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu

(6)Anabel Medina Garrigues (ESP) v Monica Niculescu (ROU)
Shahar Peer (ISR) v Q
Valeria Savinykh (RUS) v Timea Babos (HUN)
Q v (4)Chanelle Scheepers (RSA)

Anabel is much better on clay and she hasn't been spectacular this year (except against Ana in Perth) so Monica can do it. The rest of the section seems easy.

Hopefull we get a rematch of the Luxembourg final With a different outcome of course !

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu

This section could have been from Bogota.

Anything else than a SF would be a huge disappointment for me. AMG didn't play badly in Dubai, but she is very inconsistent these days and her last matches against defensive minded players were rather underwhelming. Monica was very good in Doha from what I've seen and had a week off to prepare now.

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu

what's the surface?
on clay I think she can't win

may your choices reflect your hopes not your fears.

It's outdoor HC But the surface looks like IW so it could be very slow.

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu

If you can't serve, it would be helpful to take your BPs as least.
