Re: Pliskova Twins News & Articles
First interview with both of them:
Like Bryan brothers? Within ten years, say sisters Plíškovi laughing it off
Karolína and Kristyna Pliskova twins are quite exemplary. Their similarity goes much deeper than that they are visually hardly discernible. How deep? At a press conference at one point as an answer to the posed question, both tennis players burst out identically: "Yeah!"
At that moment one has to ask: How often happens that you answer a question the same way?
And again, in exactly the same moment sounds from both the same thing: "Often!"
They laugh. Slap each other hands. They understand each other perfectly.
On the court as well. They won two doubles titles this year. With a exaggeration they dream of how they would like to beat the number of Grand Slam triumphs of other tennis twins - the legendary American Bryan brothers. "They've already got sixteen? We can make it within ten years, "laughed Carolina.
And what are otherwise your further plans?
Kristýna: In singles I would like to get into top fifty perhaps.
Karolína: I would like to stay around where I am. Getting into the top twenty would be nice, but I am a lot of points short there.
What do you want to work the most on?
Kristýna: We work a lot on the footwork at the moment.
Karolína: That we have to do most of the time.
Kristýna: Also (work on) the mental side.
Karolína: We now have a lot of time for improving the fitness, we are doing it at Olymp (club in Prague) with Mr. Pech, we have great conditions there. Otherwise in tennis you can always improve everything.
Did you manage to have a holiday?
Karolína: I had a very challenging end of the season. Tournament champion in Sofia. Then there was the Fed Cup, and not much time off. Altogether a bit over a week. I managed to go to Dubai for a week, where it was nice. I lay on the beach doing nothing. Awesome.
Kristýna: I had a little more time off, so I was for ten days on the Canary Islands. Since then, I am in preparation, I run all the time. Good too.
Christine, you yourself called this season "up and down". Why is it that it was not as successful as hoped?
It did not help me a couple of heavy defeats during the year. I've changed a lot of coaches, perhaps every three months. I had a weird period with Mr. Bedan, then I was with Jiri Vanek, who is now with my sis. I've got to steady it a bit.
Is Karolína your motivation ?
She will give me advice. Mainly I need to avoid up-and-downs. Now I am with Ivo Minar (Davis Cup winner in 2012) and I would like that teamwork to last for some time. Whether it will Ivoš, or someone else.
Are you following each other's matches even when you're not at the same tournament?
Kristýna: I watch the live scores, but it's stressful. I prefer to wait for a message.
Karolína: When we're together, we are watching every match. And if not, I'll find time in my schedule to find out how my sis went
Kristýna: You give a stuff about me. (sorry that’s in slang and difficult to translate, she is teasing her sister rather than meaning it)
Karolína: I do.
How many days a year you don’t get to see each other?
Kristýna: There are quite a few, occasionally we are playing at different tournaments. We are getting used to it.
Karolína: But does not happen that we didn’t hear from each other. We always keep calling, we keep in touch all the time.
Kristýna: We are messaging via WhatsApp, we call on Skype. And if we ever have a fight, its good again quickly.
How much does it help to have a sister on the circuit?
Karolína: It's definitely a plus. There are some things I can not talk about with coaches or even family. For something I really just have Kristýnu. She gives me energy.
Sometimes you even coach each other don’t you?
Kristýna: When there was no coach, so I went for Kája on the court. Kája used to do it too. Its helping her a lot, for me, not too much.
Karolína: I give bad advice ... When there is not a coach, I'll call sis, it's better than to be alone there. She sees it a little differently from the bench, she knows tennis, and she gives me good advice sometimes.
They're more like tennis advice, or mental support?
Kristýna: Karolína prefers to cry a bit.
Karolína: I relax by that I do not feel so stressed out and I feel better afterwards.
Do you spend together Christmas as well?
Karolína: Definitely. The tournaments moved so, I leave on December 29, so that after about three years, we will be at home for Christmas with her family.
Kristýna: Christmas without sis? It is not possible.
Karolína: We'll be together. Drop in at grandmas and relatives and quickly back into training.
How do you buy gifts?
Kristýna: Most gifts always give to Karolína.
Karolína: Saving on the other (presents), so we could give each other gifts.
On Thursday you got as a gift a car from the BMW car company. How long will you be serving faster than driving?
Kristýna: I will be driving fifty. I will certainly be serving faster.
But so far you have not got driving lessons. When do you start?
Karolína: Probably not, rather by Monday. There will be a little bit of time ... But when we saw the car, we would want to get the driver's license.
