Now direct entrants, Llodra and Nadal have surrendered their previously held wild cards. Since Friday 16th May therefore, the names of fifteen of the sixteen competitors in the men's and women's singles have been known. In the women's tournament, the French players Céline Beigbeder and Sophie Lefèvre have joined Australia's Christina Wheeler and their compatriots Amandine Dulon, Tatiana Golovin, Anaïs Laurendon, Virginie Pichet, and Camille Pin on the wild card list.
On the men's side, there are two invitations still to be handed out. The Llodra and Nadal cases have freed up two extra places, of which the happy beneficiaries are France's Thierry Ascione, Julien Benneteau, Nicolas Mahut and Cyril Saulnier, joining the other wild cards, the American Michael Chang and Frenchmen Richard Gasquet and Jérôme Golmard.
Finally, an agreement between the Australian and French tennis federations means that two wild cards are reserved for a male and female player from the Antipodes. Christina Wheeler has been chosen for the women's berth, while the play-off match for the men's place was decided by a 2 sets to 1 win for Scott Draper over Todd Reid.
