I'm starting to think that it is just a myth that clay is her best surface. I don't care how well the other girl may/may not have played (she played well last week) - #36 (2nd seed) doesn't lose to an inexperienced number #156 in the second round on her "best surface". Alize was broken three times in the final set, and double faulted five times. Pretty disappointing loss.

Alize will play qualifier Castano in the first round in Mexico, and would meet meet Candela (who she beat easily in Bad Gastien last year) in the second round. We'll see how she plays, but she has some opportunities with this draw. Pennetta was knocked out of her bracket today, if Alize could put a run together she could face Errani in the SF's.

Really a great win. She was down so many times and fought hard to win this match. Her mental strength and physical conditioning were both impressive in this match. Gets much, much tougher now against Errani in the SF's. But win or lose, its been a good tournament for her. :)

There are only 16 seeds at Indian Wells...Alize will not be one of them. Alize plays a qualifier in the first round and then Wozniacki in the second. Her ranking will likely take a hit the next two weeks, she has a lot of points to defend next week from her finals run at the 100,000+ ITF Nassau tourney last year (a tournament that is now gone). Alize needs to beat Wozniacki just to defend her Indian Wells points from last year, and will need to get to the fourth round to avoid losing most of the points she won in the Bahamas last year. She has never done very well at Indian Wells, but hopefully this will give her extra inspiration and she will make a good run. :)
