Re: Camila Giorgi Cheering Thread!!
I checked her results from last year in Charlotsville and the 50K event in Florida that follows it. Camila lost second round in one of those and third round in the other. (Just three wins in two events.) So if she has some decent success and just makes the semis in both those events, she could pick up another 40 or so ranking points -- and much more if she can run to the finals in either, or win one.
Right now she is at an all-time career high ranking of 129. (BTW, Gallovits-Hall moved up to the mid-80s with her final finish.) So there is a good chance she will climb even higher in the next couple weeks. This should open up many more opportunities for her. Camila has also moved up to #6 among Italian women players. This should help her get that WC for Rome.
When one considers that there were ten players ranked above Camila in Dothan, with at least a couple inside the top 100, this tells me she is ready to move inside the top 100, too. Let's hope she can qualify for the French, Wimbledon and the US Open (lots of points and prize money for just winning one or two main-draw matches at these.) And lets also hope she starts getting direct entry into more WTA events and also earning wins there. Next year this time our Camila could be spending most of her time on the WTA Tour.
