2017 will be difficult to be worse than 2016. Let's hope Cami worked on her game and will go deep in some tournaments and will constantly play at an acceptable level and have some amazing days as well.

January schedule:
- Shenzhen (int) first round against Bacszinsky: very tough draw but better than against Halep or Aga. Timea can be quite streaky as well
- Hobart (int) : Cami will have to play qualies unless +-4 main draw plagers drop out
- Australian Open : Cami doesn't need to play quallies but won't be seeded either. Let's hope for a good draw

Shenzhen draw:
Overall, a pretty challenging draw. Even if she solves the riddle of Timea, Zheng is proven a persistent moonballer with surprising power.

The draw:
(1) Radwanska vs (WC) Duan
Kucova vs Cirstea
Pironkova vs Voskoboeva
(8)Riske vs (WC)Zhu

(4)Bacsinszky vs Giorgi
Q/LL vs Zheng
Rodina vs Wang
(WC)Zhang vs (7)Niculescu

(6)Sevastova vs Pliskova,Kr
Q/LL vs Golubic
Sakkari vs King
Buyukakcay vs (3)Konta

(5)Babos vs Q/LL
Q/LL vs Q/LL
Peng vs Siniakova
Jankovic vs (2)Halep

her and her father should just be ashamed of themselves...her tennis is beyond embarassing...unable to serve, unable to return on serve...ut honestly i am not surprised...when lele mora is your manager...it says everything...

Phiew! Very close win today against Bogdan (lucky loser for bacszinsky) I only saw the first two sets and in the first set and big parts of the second Cami was very bad: hitting deep in the net or far out, not constructing points.

What I notice is that she rarely hits a backhand longline anymore. Maybe it was her gameplan or maybe she doesnt trust the shot that much anymore.
I did think her first serve down the T on the deuce side was better than usual. She had some nice aces there as well.
She also did hang on well. At 1-6 5-6 she was 0-30 down and really didn't wanna lose.

Didnt see the third set. Probably higher level judging the stats

i sae the 1st set and almost the whole second ( before falling asleep )...really really poor display...i cant understand why she plays so bad...what do they do when they train ?

i am not even sure to say...at least she won...seeing the way she plays she would deserve to loose all the matches, to be without ranking...this would be the only way to see some changing...

her return on serve is so mediocre...

2r of shenzhen she beat saisai zheng 6-7 7-5 6-4. Match took more than 3hours!
The level on serve and the level from the back of the court and at the net was not bad at all.

The things that were not good were the return of serve (really bad for big parts of the match) and her nerves! She really didnt handle being ahead well at all.
Her backhand down the line was back which I liked :)

The match reminded me a lot of the match against Flipkens last year in katowice: also kicking the (first) serve often, having to be very patient, major momentum swings but she's coming out on top against those slice/dirtballers.

Next up: Qiang Wang. No idea how good she is or how she plays. At least Cami already earned all the points she had to defend until indian Wells :)

Think she won't play (quallies) of hobart now

i couldnt agree more with that...some sign of improvements...but her ROS is really, really bad.

if she wins one more match she may get a SE in Hobart...

I've seen almost all the match and I can say a few things.

Her serve has improved. It seems more stable. Her FH crosscourt is definitely more angled and a killer shot. (even better than before)
Her BH is ok...even tho' sometimes she had the open court and she didn't feel secure enough to close a point with it hitting in the middle. DTL is still there luckily.

Her return sucks. But mostly is because she's trying too much like always. When She positioned the racquet just to redirect the pace she won more points even if the start of the rally was neutral and not in her favor.
Her defence sucks hard. No slice, when she's out of position she hits still hard and then obviously she has no time to cover the ground. She is still glued to the baseline even when the other player is coming forward again removing her time to hit the ball.

Overall...she needs to be more patient. A lot of mistakes are coming because she wants too much too fast. A usual for her. But at least her BBB level seems fine. Mentally it seems more or less the same. She didn't lose her focus even against the bathroom break and the MTO tho', kudos to her.

I'm really happy she won this match. She needs the points.

You can see her points and next points here:

Live WTA Ranking

she's at 816 points right now..if she wins she goes to 866. (position 72)

Qiang Wang if I remember correctly is a well-rounded player. She's more of a grinder. Solid game from both sides and balanced aggression.

I saw the tiebreak of the first set and then the whole second set, so I can judge based on that.

As you guys already said, her ROS is really bad, and basically it was the reason why she lost the tiebreak in the first set. Moreover, Zheng has a really basic serve, not so difficult to return (even 1st serve), so all those errors were really disappointing...but no news.
Good news is that her serve seems to be better, but I'm still worrying that she will show off with a shitty +10 DFs performance in the future.
Overall, Zheng was just moonballing and slicing most of the times, Camila was the usual BBB. I have to say that she seemed way more comfortable with her FH, and that she changed slightly the movement of her BH, maybe she wants to add a little bit of topspin.
I don't know what to expect from the match with Wang, the chinese seems to be in good shape so it won't be easy for Camila, for sure better Wang than Niculescu. Good luck.

Camila just destroyed Wang 6-0 6-2, so she's through the SFs in Shenzen! :cheer:

First set was just incredible from princess, hitting winners everywhere and rarely missing any ROS. In the second set Wang tried her best, hitting the ball hard whenever she could, and Cami found herself 1-2* down (even if she could've been 3-0 up, missing chances in both 2nd and 3rd game). It seemed the start of the usual mess, but our girl kept playing good tennis and didn't lose her mind and managed to win the remaining games quite easily. The MP was really amazing, it showed how much Cami wanted to close it fastly! :rocker:

Overall, it was GOATmila mood today, but I think Wang is just too basic and doesn't have any weapon to get Cami in trouble (messy net-game, basic serve, no big power, unable to mix the game). However, we all know that Camila can self-destruct in any moment, so it is really good sign that she kept her focus for the whole match, especially because it was a QF! Serve keeps working, only two DFs. :smoke:

Riske next! Alison is a really tough opponent, she's playing really well and has an amazing serve that could expose Cami's crazy return position. Helmets will be required for sure, obviously I'm expecting amazing winners and silly errors from both sides, let's hope that Camila will have a better W-UE ratio. Good luck!

Waw! Such a long time ago that she won a main draw match easily! I didnt see the match but can only assume she was really good

Good for the confidence and also for the rest of the season. Without this win she Probably wouldn't have gotten direct entrance to the main draw of indian Wells/Miami (assuming she don't play Hobart) Chances are pretty high now she stays top 75 for the main draw deadlines after the points of next week come off.

Riske also played really well today against Aga. May the best woman win tomorrow!

The 1st set was absolutely amazing :clap2:, Wang was shocked, she obviously never faced with such a firepower :lick:!

For the 2nd set she was ready to adjust in order to be a little more competitive. Her invention was to immediately "reflect" the balls to Camila's place, which turned out to be a good strategy, because Camila is instinctively going/standing forward, but in this case she had to come back (not her nature), or risking her shots from a NOT optimal position TOO EARLY, practically transforming her "bashing" to "pushing".

But to my surprise, Camila could save her mental control and patience, and could adjust in this direction! Her ball positioning and the chosen time for the bashing/pushing was more intentional than anytime earlier!!! This is an ABSOLUTELY GOOD SIGN for her future! If she can keep this mindset for 4-6 matches in a row, a new era may come, when she's going to win tournaments! First smallers, and later the rest .

she is a joy to watch when she plays like today, but at the same time she is a disappointment...so she knows how play tennis, she knows how to ROS...she can serve properly ( avoiding loads of DFs...i dont understand why it is not possible to have a bit more of consistence...and this Wang is not as medicore as Zheng...its indeed a very good win...now lets hope she can grab one more win + she gets a SE in Hobart...

I couldnt watch her match, but I'm so so so happy that she's in another SF. It feels like forever already since she was able to connect in several matches consecutively. I hope she can move on step further into the final. Let's hope these wins give her back the passion and confidence in her tennis

she ll never go anywhere untill she learns ROS...

she ll never go anyway untill she learns ROS...
I think the major problem today was another one. Riske played perfectly like a wall and Camila just tried to bash bash bash to no avail. She needs a better point construction or else she's gonna lose these kind of battles.

Cami meet Timea Bacsinszky first round in AO :)

She have not played this year, but still a good player. Still good chance with Zheng/Kovinic in round 2 and Gavilrova in round 3. Could this be the AO Cami finally gets round 4?

the draw is okish condisering her current level/she is the number 80 in the world...not easy matches but she is nt closed. I would be really happy if she could reach a 3rd round.

#32 ·
Camila will need to play a high-quality match if she wants to win, unless Timea is in bad conditions (could be possible given her recent retirements).
I really hope she manages to get this win, it would be fundamental to give a continuation to the good run in Shenzhen. GOOD LUCK!
