How far will the defending champ go?

Today Iva Majoli had a pretty convincing 6-2, 7-5 victory over Lindsay Lee-Waters. I think Iva has the potential to do pretty well here. I am not totally sure she will defend and I doubt she will...but keep in mind this is her favorite surface. She also made the semi's last week in Sarasota where she lost to an almost unbeatable Molik (at least she was unbeatable until the final against Myskina). Iva probably feels very at home here. This was where she had a major "re-breakthrough". It kind of reminds me of Bianka Lamade. She won in Tashkent in 2001, but dropped off the scene with an injury. In February she came back and won a 75k over Granville in the final. She still says the 75k will always be more special that her tour title because of the point in time it came in her career. I think it is the same with Iva. I know there is a lot of difference between Iva's and Bianka's titles, but I think FCC is more special to her than her RG title.I am sure she wants to do well here and also keep her ranking as high as she can. In the second round she will face the very inconsistent Elena Dementieva. Elena has a lot of talent but Iva should be confident about that match because of Elena's history and her disliking of clay. After that she will face the winner of the Jelena Dokic-Maja Matevzic match. If she were to win that she would most likely face the very strong Serena in the 4th round. Could she be capable of a major Serena upset on Serena's least favorite surface? We'll see but right now she needs to concentrate one match at a time. Good luck Iva!! Defend your title

Sorry to sat, but Elena has never lost to Iva.

I think the pressure of the occasion and the pressure of Dementieva's groundstrokes will hit Iva in the next round.

Iva has some great weapons, like her FH CC, but Dementieva's is more powerful and better.

DEETHELICK ,I agree with you.
Elena's gonna to beat the defending champion! All of us know that Elena has never lost a set to Iva.Elena has no problems playing Iva.I don't see Elena has any difficulties this time.
So,I think, maybe,Iva will only reach the second round. Sorry,Iva.

Good luck Elena!

Sorry, but I would not consider 4:6, 7:5, 6:1 as having no difficulties. But then, the tennis is binary.. Either you win or you lose, and nothing in between..
