Hi guys,

I thought I’d open up a thread about Game 100 – just in case there’s anything that needs to be discussed or finalised before the game starts. Feel free to add any thoughts in this thread.

What will happen is :

All previous categories (except Second Chance) will be put into Random Org and a list will be generated with numbers 1 – whatever.

That list will be screencapped and timestamped – and made public at the same time as the Song Reveal just before the final voting ceremony starts.

People who commit to play will be given their number in order of commitment

Person No 1 will pick a song from the category that is No 1, Person 2 – No 2, Person 3 – No 3 and so on.

Adey I was thinking it would maybe a good idea to open the thread a bit earlier than usual as people has to receive the theme so it's not like when they join late a normal game as they know what the theme is about and they have been thinking/researching until the last day.

Also there should be a deadline of a day or so (like 24 hours before the next ceremony starts??) to signining up, no?

this will be public right? I mean, if @SilverPersian will be the first to commit we will know that he will get cat. N°1, so we could be able to spoil more or less all the songs

yeah, wouldn't be better to randomize also the list of people who commit to play before assigning them to a random category? it's pretty easy to do.

It's not a bad idea, but I think it's one that will drive you crazy to sort everyone out.

Personally, I don't have a problem with it, but I hope that it's possible way for us to be able to re-assign a theme in case the one we were is not to our liking.

I play BSG because I want to submit songs I like for a specific theme. If I don't like the theme, my name won't be there. The last thing I want to do it to join this game and give a half arsed song.

My two cents.

#7 ·
It's contrary to the principle of this game. As much as I can skip a theme because I can't send a song I like enough, it's something else to enter a game and be ready to stand by its challenge. If I'm given hip hop with this one, I'll send a hip hop song. You don't play it with the same mindset.

So I don't agree that a player can refuse a theme and ask for another - it goes totally against the fun of it.

#8 ·
You're the only person with this mindset because you've played all themes whether you liked it or not. Majority haven't.

And realistically, everyone assigned a single theme is not the way to go. It's pretty much an open game then.

#11 ·
Then what's the point of game 100? Why is it special? Because we get assigned a theme? :spit: OK then.

Anyways, I thought about a similar theme like this when I wanted to nominate but I thought better against it because it just sounds like a huge mess and colossal trainwreck waiting to happen, especially if each individuals are assigned an unique theme. Theme compliance will be a big issue. But I guess if there's anyone that could do it it's Adey.

#12 ·
I think this is gonna be a lot of fun. :cheer:

#13 ·
the point is to commemorate the other themes and it's special because everyone has a different one assigned, that's it.

If you want to please everyone you should just let people decide their own theme to send to Adey with the chosen song and avoid this randomness.

Thanks Adey for opening this thread, I think it's great to have this discussion now, so we aren't hit with unpleasant surprises once the game starts:worship:

There are a few things to sort out, especially the timing of people committing in relation to the entry deadline. It's a good idea to open the game for nominations a week ahead of the normal starting time, but we probably also need to say that prenominations close one or two days ahead of the entry deadline. Otherwise it puts too much pressure on Adey to be on hand to quickly notify people of their assigned theme.

There is also the detail of the winner nominating the theme. Obviously the winner who would normally get the theme choice for game 100 (#96 I think?) won't get to choose this theme. I propose that that this game sidesteps the normal theme-nominating cycle. So the winner of game #96 gets to nominate the theme for game #101, and the winner of this game doesn't get to nominate a theme (the honour of winning game #100 should be enough:angel:). After a few games (#104) we will then be back on the normal cycle.

There is also the question of what to do if people refuse their theme. I am personally in favour of creating a "wall of shame" thread and posting the names of the refuseniks, to be subjected to unceasing ridicule for the duration of the game:devil:.

Seriously, people can obviously refuse a theme if they like, but I think it's obvious that they are then out of the game. No second bite of the cherry.

Re theme compliance: I think that the assigned themes should be displayed together with the song names at the initial reveal. The songs are sorted alphabetically as usual, so as long as the master list assigning players to themes is kept secret until the ceremony, nobody can infer anything about people's identity from this. People should be free to comment on what they see as non-compliance, but we have to accept the list as the list once it's been revealed. It is just too messy to try to sort out compliance rules for so many themes at once. If people want to penalize non-compliance, they should do it by withholding votes.

That's fine with me if there's no major objections from anyone.

I would love this theme!

However, what if the winner of game 99 (or 100) wants to choose a theme?
Well there will be a cut off point - that being the time the thread is opened.

#16 ·
Well the idea is that at the time the thread is opened all of the categories will be put into Random.Org – which will then produce a datestamped list like this (example below)

People will either commit in in the thread or by PM saying they want to play.
The usual ongoing list of participants will be kept – e.g
1 Monzanator
2 AdeyC
3 TIEFSEE
4 drg
5 Wally.
6 eck
7 Mustafina
8 Punky
9 Big_Banana
10 Beat
11 zvonarevarulz

As soon as Monzanator committed – he would get a PM saying his category is Swinging 40’s. When drg committed he would get a PM saying his category is One Word Titles – he’s 4th to commit so he gets No 4, and so on.

The reason for doing this thread is that we don’t get the same thing as happened in Game 50.

I reckon 'Open' should be a possible theme one can get too - just to see who's the luckiest :p.

BTW I'm in as you probably know Adey ;).

The two misfits games were differently defined, so no problem there. I would definitely only put one previously unnominated in the mix.

There is also the question of the 40s/50s game and Big Banana's Swinging 40s. Maybe we should pragmatically make that a 40s and a 50s theme, since most players submitted 50s for the 40s/50s one?

I agree, as this is effectively an Open 'lite' theme. I don't think we should have an open game either because that gives whoever gets it a huge advantage over someone who gets a theme that they are totally uncomfortable with. In any event, surely this game is about themes.

I don't see a problem with having separate themes for 40s and 50s but if we have too many themes they could be combined.

#31 ·
Yeah, 40s/50s as per the original theme IMO :).

#34 ·
I actually liked the idea of leaving one open theme in the mix, precisely because it enhances the "lottery" aspect. Even without that, some players will get incredibly lucky with themes that they love and/or that are vulture-friendly, while others will be very unlucky.

The whole fun of this game is in rolling the dice and seeing what turns up. Putting in an open theme as a joker just spices it up a bit more IMO

Too many themes is not a problem IMO. We will almost certainly have more themes than players. That just means that some of the themes won't be used. That's part of the lottery as well

 That's fine. I guess I am expecting the worst in this game (Reality tv theme:help::hysteric::lol:), so adding an open option could only be an improvement for me:p

Seriously, sounds like most people want to drop this option, which is fine by me:)

Reality TV would be a nightmare for me just for all the research I would have to do on TV stuff I can't care less.
In the end with so many programmes there should be plenty to choose from because it doesn't have to be the performance in the programme just any song sung on them, so you could just pick the original artist
