Pops Maellard - A big hit from my high-school years...I remember listening to it for the first time. It was a no doubt dreadfully boring afternoon in my art class, and I had a little shitty 512mb black Mp3 player I was listening to the radio on. I remember when I first heard it being actually reasonably struck by the melancholy of the thing. These days? Don't hate it but am happy to leave it back in '07 if I'm honest. Wouldn't seek it out to listen ordinarily, and when I hear it on my Mum's car radio now and again I don't hate it but it's just 'there' I guess. I can already see half the participants coming out with guns blazing after this one but I don't feel that strongly/badly about it.
Side-Note: Timbaland's little weird grunts and noises are something I'd like to discuss for a moment . I'm used to them in this song by now, but Timbaland being a rap producer originally, those guys really like to mark their territory (ie. piss ) on the songs they produce by throwing in some vocal 'copyright sign' (be it their name, "y'all know what this is!", whisper "Darkchild" in Darkchild's case, or something similar). I think it's quite egotistical (OK more than just quite) and is never relevant to the song, ever. Maybe the song's actual artists don't have the nerve to say 'you're getting your paycheck, you don't need your ug voice to be present on my song as well'. Whatever - hardly affecting the song in my case, just a little side-note.
salmon pants.- Song I've heard so many times, but Ryan Tedder's voice is so pretty and haunting on this track. Having heard this song covered so many times on reality shows it was actually kind of nice to hear Ryan again.
^bibi^ - As I'm trying to take this game seriously, I listened to this song. But I really hate that song I hate the rythm/flow of it, I hate Timbaland's stupid "heys" in the background, I hate the guys voice and I hate that I had to endure it so many times in the past. I'm sorry for whoever entered this, but it's really wasted on me
- James. - Not their best song, but still very worthy. And I started to sing along half way through, so that is a positive sign. Not sure which half of my votes it might turn up in though.
Semi-Final Result
Apologise was put in SF#1 as song#9. It finished 3rd of its SF with a total of 133 points after a deduction of 12 pts as a result of me not sending Points Breakdown:
The song was therefore qualified for the final, where it placed 19th with 58 pts. A drop from 3rd to 19th . Though again 12pts were deducted from me not sending and Zenith, who gave me a 10, sent in his picks 90mins late.
Mustafina - Oh Sia. This sounds terrible to me. So overproduced. I wish she would go back to kooky and fun pop tunes like Cares At The Door or Buttons.
Pops Maellard - In a pop sort of vein I can appreciate this one. It doesn't appear to be trying too hard to sound trendy and 'respectable' and the sort of ballad that like Lady Gaga could sing or something. I liked the overall vibe of this one more than the vocal. I'm not that fussed over Sia's belting, it sounds a bit strained. It didn't make me think less of the song though. It's alright . '1-2-3 1-2-3 drink' is a memorable hook.
August - :yeah:
Hugues Daniel - 3/5
zvonarevarulz - 8/10 The first time I heard this song I was irritated. I was annoyed that Sia sold out. But the more I listened, the more it grew on me. I do wish they had cut the autotune, I think that was unnecessary. As far as mainstream pop goes, it’s excellent. I agree that old Sia was better. Chandelier doesn't even compare at all to Sia's old work. Just looking at her uptempos, Clap Your Hands, You've Changed, and Buttons are just a few examples of songs that are lightyears better than Chandelier. However, Chandelier on its own is a nice little pop song. If you compare it to most music, I would say it's well above average. Comparing it against Sia's own work is not what I was trying to do.
Beat - i don't like at all. "bring back old sia" is what i think, even after repeated listens
^bibi^ - I wonder if anyone had the same feeling as I had the first time they heard this song. The first 30 seconds, I was so sure this was Rihanna's new song. Then whe she started going higher for the first Chorus, I had to check because it was obviously not Rihanna. Some (many?) seem to dislike this song as they judge it too commercial and not "Sia" enough. I personnally don't care about such considerations. It's a very good song. Yes it's utterly commercial, but if the song is good, and to me it is, I don't have a problem with it being labelled as commercial.
Javi. - In spite the worse reviews, I find this Sia song much more pleasant that the previously submitted in another game :yeah:
Semi-Final Result
Chandelier was put in SF#1. It finished 2nd of its SF with a total of 173 points. It seemed to be a very polarising song with 13 people placing in their top 2 while 21 gave it no points Points Breakdown:
Pops Maellard - Wasn't going to review this (last minute edition) because it's such an evergreen and I'm not quite as impressed generally with unadventurous choices in this game for some reason. I'll admit it's rather infectious . It's also good that such young men as the Jackson 5 were back then were given such a song. Some of the kid bubblegum (which this is kinda) back then would've been horrendous. Every style has something to be rescued clearly!
Hugues Daniel - If there's only one song I don't really like in the whole selection, well, it's the Jackson Five's one. I really can't get used to that very high pitched child singing of Michael... (you can still oppose me to my contradictions, since I love the Tammys! LOL)
zvonarevarulz - 9.5/10 um...is this a remix? I'm going to judge based on the right version of the song, which is near perfection.
^bibi^ - This could easily be one of the catchiest tune ever Even though I'm not a huge fan of MJ's kid voice, I still love this song very dearly, my second favorite of them after I'll be there.
Semi-Final Result
I Want You Back was put in SF#1. It finished 9th of its SF with a total of 87 points. Points Breakdown:
Pops Maellard - Was kind of everywhere for a while and got annoying, but radio's calmed down after a while so this is fairly inoffensive for me these days . Not amazing but listenable. On a superficial level, the male vocalist is suckable .
@nathanj594 - I never understood the love for this song, but here's your winner everybody.
^bibi^ - This is probably my cheesy self at his peak, but I really like that song and the way their voices are mixing together. Not an unknown entry, but definitely one I like
Semi-Final Result
Need You Now was put in SF#2. It finished 4th of its SF with a total of 131 points. Points Breakdown:
Pratik - Never knew there were difference in the lyrics between versions. Much prefer the other version.
Med.Nico - Was that a world cup song*? Not my taste
JustPetko - Don't expect points from me
Silverpersian- I find this song a little strange – seems like a bit of a mismatch of musical genres and ideas somehow. Not much that’s musically interesting, it seems a bit static and underdeveloped to me. Sorry to the lovely person who nominated this
^bibi^ - Back in known grounds. It's a bit of cheesy pop, but I don't mind it
Semi-Final Result
Wavin' Flag was put in SF#2. It finished 18th of its SF with a total of 66 points. Points Breakdown:
Lord Choc Ice - One of the better things to come out of the EDM craze of recent years probably. The beat is a bit stiff and unexciting but the vocal part packs a good punch.
zvonarevarulz - 6/10
stromatolite - Annoying
Shvedbarilescu - This is a lot better than the previous Sia entry which was, frankly, pretty poor. This one is okay. It's pretty mainstream and there isn't anything about it that really grabs me but it does manage to at least avoid getting on my nerves. This is adequate pop music but I can't see this song staying in my head more than a few minutes.
Haimar - Okay, so I hate David Guetta, I feel that he is ruining pop music and makes everything sound the same, just like Will.I.Am. This on the other hand, makes me think of parties! I used to study European Politics with a whole bunch of international students, and each week we would end up in this club where you could dance on tables and every time this song came on we just went nuts Ah good memories, and damn I miss international students, they are so easy to get in ur bed Can't believe this is the same Sia from Chandelier and Breathe me
Wanderer - 6/10 I have no complaints. Not my cup of tea, and I usually avoid to vote for such songs. Too contemporary for me
traddles - Sorry Sia, I don't like this one. I blame D. Guetta for it
Semi-Final Result
Titanium was put in SF#2. It finished 4th of its SF with a total of 115 points. Points Breakdown:
NOTE - this is one of my favourites songs! I am unlike the majority here a big fan of most contemporary music and I love EDM, when its good so I do like David Guetta, Calvin Harris etc.
Med.Nico - I love this song. The best version is the one from The Glee Project, but the original is still great
Lord Choc Ice - I like some Rihanna and am glad she's finally nominated but this song, just...no. I don't get the praise, it's so repetitive, like endlessly and it just bores me. Most of her major danceable singles would've gotten a good review .
^bibi^ - So, Rihanna has finally made it to this game. Seeing how she seems to be releasing ten songs a year for the last 6-7 years, it was surprising she hadn't made it yet. I usually don't mind her, there are a few songs I can't listen to, and a few I really enjoy (Man Down is even totally brilliant IMO). We Found Love I would place in the middle. I don't overly love it, but won't mind hearing it either.
%age of body parts dancing to it 50% (Probably start dancing to it, but then getting tired of it after a while…)
fufuqifuqishahah- both meaningful and fun to dance to, not entirely sure of lasting power tho
Fantasy Hero - cheesy and overplayed...but yeah, I can't deny that everytime it is played on a club I can't help myself but jumpin' jumpin'
Haimar - Rihanna is such a hit or miss artist with me. I can get totally obsessed with some of her songs (I had times were I drove my mother in law crazy in Shangai by constantly singing Diamonds) but at times I just feel she is just doing whatever is cool at the moment... This kind of falls in between that, she obviously made a song with Calvin because he was really popular back then and the song turned out quite well, does good at parties, yet it hasn't the power like Only Girl in the World or Disturbia for me...
Semi-Final Result
We Found Love was put in SF#2. It finished 4th of its SF with a total of 127 points. Points Breakdown:
Pops Malleard - She has a pretty great voice, but no to the song. It was a bit of a drone. Reminded me of the 2014 game
fufuqifuqishahah - :speakles:
^bibi^ - Wasn't too bad. I'm still not so sure they deserve so much praise, you'd think they'd found a cure for cancer or something Enjoyable song though.
zvonarevarulz- YASSSS. I love Florence. So. Stinking. Much. She’s amazing. Seven Devils is so haunting, I remember the first time I heard it and just being like WOAAAAH. This is my creepy jam. Haha
Mustafina - Talk about atmosphere. This has heaps of it, and then some. I love the sinister piano chords, the chilling introduction and the intensity of her theatrical style of singing. She really sings the heck out of every song, doesn't she? I'm not a big fan of that but here, the end result is hypnotic, eerie and triumphant. Glad to see her have a successful career.

Seven Devils was put in SF#2. It finished 1st of its SF with a total of 200 points. Points Breakdown:

I first heard this song during the Revenge Season 1 Finale and I instantly fell in love with it It's just so haunting and the vocals are just sooo great!

Reviews
fufuqifuqishahah - We start off with a boring guitar solo, but I guess that is supposed to contrast the funness of the song that is to come. We are dazzled with typical bollywood fare, and in this case it is melodically uninteresting and rhytmically repetitive, but rhythmically fun and lively especially with the crowd whistles with some fun quick interludes.
The video helps add to the fun and expression of the song.
Lord Choc Ice - Nice guitar riff at the beginning, and then the banjo (or some similar instrument) came in. Damn, I thought this was gonna turn into a catchy pop-rock kind of number. The intro was definitely the best thing about it in the end!
Litotes - Great tune, but a bit repetitive. Didn't utilize the vocals to maximum effect.
Beat- i didn't give it points because it's cheese, but because it's insanely catchy

Stromatolite - Unspectacular, but actually a pretty nice song. The singer has a beautiful voice, which in contrast to the earlier entry by the same artist, really comes into its own through the relatively straightforward vocal delivery here

I love this song and has very disappointed with the results. If this type of song had been in English, then I truly believe that it would have done really great but it was not to be. One day, I hop that a Bollywood song does well in BSG because they definitely deserve to

I would've hated this if I were at clubs a few years back where this would've been no doubt played ad-nauseum, but I'm not much of a club person . Eh, this is just there. I don't like it I don't hate it. Generic as hell though. To choose a Pitbull song I would've chosen "Rain Over Me" personally (which isn't any less generic, but eh, that would've been my choice. This song would have definitely done much better if the original 'Africa' had not also been in this edition  In this stretch of games, my placings were atrocious! This song is definitely my biggest flop.
N.M - Hallelujah is not my style, you know i'm not the right in your face vulture and i do my checking very carefully.

Hallelujah was put in SF#1. It finished 3rd of its SF with a total of 167 points. Points Breakdown:
I was SHOCKED when I realized that this song was not chosen. One thing I HATE is people who don't give points because a song is a 'vulture'. If a song is good, it's good. Get over it. Another thing, I really wish that I should have sent "Never Let Me Go", for this one and "Hallelujah" for the 'Quiet Songs' one.
Big Banana - Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everybody I've ever known
Beat - 3/10
i already expressed my opinion that florence = screaming, even in what are supposed to be quiet songs.
N.M - maaaaaybe... it's not bad, beginning actually is good, but gets uninspiring at some point and it's a vulture
Silver Persian - I think this was the first Florence submission I've enjoyed for a while - maybe because there hadn't been another entry for the previous few months prior.
Hugues Daniel - Florence & the Machine is regularly submitted in this game. Didn't notice if it was always submitted by the same person, but I suspect that she has one or two fans out there.
As for me, not especially. Of all the songs submitted in this game, I only liked one (the first one, I think). That's not saying what she does is terrible either, but I certainly don't connect to. Lucky those who do.

And so many people didn't send for the finals who gave me points in the semis or wrote good reviews
salmon pants. - Sometimes I feel like I can't run, I can't crawl
And sometimes I feel like I ain't nothing at all
Life is a journey where you stumble and fall
But I'm okay
Much like that Andy Grammer song, it's a mainstream song that I can't help but love. I just do.
I seem to always find myself in a situation where I'm prepared to handshake and the other goes in for a hug, and I reluctantly do it, but for me it's always so awkward. I guess people just assume I'm a more affectionate person than I am (mainly because of the fact I'm almost always emotional unstable). Happened at the Sunday brunch where this gentleman shook hands with a guy friend (a guy he has known longer), hugged the lady, and then hugged me too despite my outstretched hand.
Beat - 3/10
cringe-worthy lyrics at the level of a eurovision song. the music is only slightly better, although i like the 2nd singer's voice.
zvonarevarulz - Very generic pop with a slight reggae feel. And we all know my thoughts on reggae.
eck - Exact same thing I face with Do You Remember, only that I remembering that I felt like slicing my ears when their other song “Am I Wrong” was on the radio. Take comfort that this song is better than that tragic song. “Silve”

In hindsight I feel as though I wasted this theme on a generic song. I love contemporary music so I should have done MUCH better in this edition. I still love this song, but I don't think its right for BSG.

I think I must have put something twice so Adey didn't count it. Just checked, I didn't mention which Stay... Of course I love it! I loved hearing constantly on the radio and music channels. It was at the top of the charts too I knew it and also liked it. I also love Hula Hoop
