Re: Donna Vekic - Volume 2

Erratic start from both players, lots of errors, Donna gets the break with a DF from Klara.

Nagging Nancy here to remind you that Donna now has her own subforum, no need to put everything into one thread :

For discussion during her matches including mental breakdowns, screaming about wasted break points and so on.

Re: Donna Vekic - Volume 2

Well, Donna lost a very topsy turvy match 64 06 46.

Was 5-1 up and just barely won the first set, then was 06 04 down and got back to 44, then played two poor games where she lost almost every point to finish the match.

Was not winning many rallies and her winning percentage on second serve reflected that (26%). Donna's big first serve needs to be omnipresent in matchups like this to give her a fighting chance.

She can learn from this, but she also definitely must improve her footwork. And hope not to draw Klara too often. She really struggles to get her feet in position for Klara's quick attacking shots which rob her of time. Especially on the bh. She made many errors and it seemed to be that her feet, balance and timing were all a bit off on many shots.

Klara is such a ball slapper you have to be in position because although she makes tons of errors her play style has her shots right back at your feet very quickly. Donna isn't the best mover obviously so this one was going to be tricky. I'm honestly surprised she won a set.

Despite not making many winners, she's still an agressive baseliner, and she doesn't only win matches by waiting the opponent's mistake, though she can do that at times also.

Re: Donna Vekic - Volume 2

Don't really know what to say about yesterday's match...

Both players looked like they didn't want to be out there, Klara like she'll burst into tears any second and Donna like someone took away her best friend i.e. her iPhone.

Donna's level was mediocre and it's quite surprising she snatched a set honestly, but the opponent's form had a lot to do with that too, it must be said.

Koukalova's level in the first set hardly looked like something you'd expect from her, but she cleaned it up right at the start of the second and the result reflected that. Third set could've been a formality and I tuned off at 0:4, so don't know what Donna did to get back, but in the end the better player won.

Klara is still far more complete, she can outsmart and outrun Donna, not to mention handle her power to dictate the point. And that's more than enough to win. Donna does seem to be getting better, but I will be keeping my fingers crossed that she avoids KK for some time in the future anyway.

Bring on the Baku Slam!

Re: Donna Vekic - Volume 2

It's kinda ridiculous Donna is ranked behind Bencic and Ana is closing in on her given her choice of tournaments and the quality of her opponents... Hopefully she does better in Baku

Re: Donna Vekic - Volume 2

Donna will always be limited player unless she improves her movement. It really concerns me that she hasn't showed any improvement in that area since Tashkent.

And I don't understand what's happening with her stamina, she always looks so tired, like she will melt down

Not happy at all.

FFS Donna She is lucky she has Kuala Lumpur and stuff because in this form I don't see her ending the year at a nice ranking place...

Re: Donna Vekic - Volume 2

After Kuala Lumpur I really thought it will give her confidence for the rest of the season, but now it Looks like if she relaxed after that, like if she has achieved something really big. She played so bad, so stupid. She hitted all balls into the net when she was A BIT in a defensive postion, I remeber the match against Muguruza than she was VERY often in defence she played some intelligent high and deep balls to Reposition her. She did not use that ONCE against Karla. I cant believe that. Just stupid senseless net hitting. Not once she went to the net. Nothing. Horrible. The only difference that I notice since Kuala Lumpur that she is now preparing her Looks much more for the court.
And once she was so rude to a Boy that collectes balls because he did not heard her immediatelly that she asked for a ball, that was so arrogant and bad. If I would be her parents I would speak a serious word with her about that.
I dont like her development in the last months at all! I will defenitly not watch her for a while...
