Because there are always some "very talented" girls, who's parents often just happen to know tournament officials and the likes, and they just happen to get those wild-cards. Of course, most often they justify this by getting bageled in R1. But anyway, Donna is already in Hvar, ready to start her qualies tomorrow.
Hvar qualies draw is out. In R1 Donna plays fellow Croat Popovic. Whoever wins will play the #2 seed, Tabak (#835 but CH #546). The winner of that match will probably qualify since Tabak is the only player in that section who has a ranking.
Draw isn't the best, but judging by her results from Bol, she should be able to win at least QR1. But Tabak could be a very tough opponent and a very high obstacle for Donna to get over. But OK, let's take it a match at a time.
Next match will be a real challenge, but hey, she said it more than once that the bigger the challenge, the more she's motivated. This next opponent of her's made some really solid wins - this time last year. But lately she wasn't exactly impressive for a 20 y.o. In fact in Bol last week, she qualified just like Donna, but unlike Donna, she failed to win a round. So why not hope, at least for a very nice battle and a competitive match.
Not happy about anyone's injury (or whatever it was) but this is at least some help to Donna in terms of preserving some more energy. Now just one more win and into one more main draw. Hope it comes true.
But, she would not just get her first ever ranking if she'd win that match, she'd also become only the fourth player ranked in top 1000, born after 1995. The remaining three are some American girl ranked in the low 900's, some girl from Ukraine ranked in the low 800's and some Australian wunderkind already ranked at #550.
Great job Donna!!!Does anybody know how many points will she have if she win 1 match here?3 points from all tournaments she played?
Yup, 1 for a 1st round loss in Zagreb last year, and 1 for each 2nd round on these 10k's (unless she goes on to win Hvar...). On "satelites" (10.000$ prize money), you don't get any points unless you reach the second round of a main draw.
