Oh well, what to say after this, I guess a nice way to start would be to congratulate Donna on another final.
BUT...this was not good. Sure thing, she is still young and there's no real reason to rush with her development, but there are definately areas where she is quite vulnerable (not surprising for her age), particularly on the backhand side and she also doesn't move too well I'd say. Irigoyen figured this out on time and utilized to the max. Another thing that I noticed here is that she is playing much better when she is trying to control and dictate the point. When she retreives and leaves the initiative to the opponent, that's when things start to fall apart. I hope they'll also adress this mental aspect of her game, cause it could prove to be crucial. She clearly never gives up, and that's great to see (not even when she is far behind on the scoreline), and her serve is very good too, but if I remember correctly, majority of her double faults came at very important moments - definately something to work on, cause it's a mind thing.
All in all, not a terrible performance, and I wish her all the best in her future development. Maybe she just didn't feel good out there today, or simply had a bad day, who would know for sure (after all, she's a female tennis player...
). She will certainly need to show something more in NY if she wants to win a match there, cause opposition might be much better than today. Hope she'll be ready.
Anyway, another week, another tournament coming up...good luck Donna
