Madison's Coaches Change

Madison Keys forms coaching partnership with Lindsay Davenport

Quote:
World number 31 Madison Keys has appointed triple Grand Slam champion Lindsay Davenport as a part time coach according to tennis journalist Matt Cronin. It is reported that Keys will work with Davenport during the off season and throughout 2015.

Throughout 2014 Keys has endured a mixed season a win-loss of 28-23. Back in June the 19-year-old won her first WTA title when she beat Angelique Kerber in the final at Eastbourne. She has also made it to the semi finals at two other WTA tournaments in Sydney and Strasbourg. The Americans year has also been affected by injury issues. During Wimbledon Keys was forced to pull out of the third round due to a leg Injury. Then more recently Keys retired in the second set of her quarter final match in Osaka due to a right rib injury. Osaka was the last tournament that Keys played in this year.

In the past Davenport has express her support for Keys. During the 2013 Australian Open the former world number one tweeted that keys has “incredible potential” and is the "Best hope I've seen for U.S. since Williams". Then on another occasion during Wimbledon in 2013 Davenport was quoted as saying to the BBC that Keys was America's biggest hope in the last 10 or 15 years.

"Keys is a big rising star. A lot of us from the States have big, high hopes for her. She is our biggest hope in the last 10 or 15 years,"

There is yet to be any official comment from either Keys or Davenport on the new partnership.

Great news!

I hope it can become more than part-time if it works out well.

Re: Madison's Coaches Change

I wonder will she have an back up or secondary coach for to travel with her for the event Lindsay can't make. I wouldn't make her go through what sloane and Paul went through (only traveling for the slams)

That might work because Lindsay already travels to the slams for commentary iirc, but I'm sure Madison will have to find another coach full time. Madison just needs consistency all around in terms of developing to become a better player.

Re: Madison's Coaches Change

Yeah, I highly doubt Lindsay would even be able to be a full time coach atm, even if she wanted to. She has her full time job at TTC that takes up more time than you think. Plus, traveling full time would be very hard on her very young family. However, I do hope that Linds can work something out with Mad's people to the extent that she can be at least a part time presence during the 2015 season

Re: Madison's Coaches Change

Look Like Madison will have another coach like we said iWill & CrossCourt~Rally here another article

Quote:
Madison Keys has begun to work with Lindsay Davenport as a coach, TENNIS.com has learned. The three-time Grand Slam champion has hit with other players on occasion, but has not coached consistently before.

Davenport, who lives in Los Angeles, has decided to work with Keys for the rest of this year. But because of her television commitments—analyst work for all the Grand Slams, among other tournaments—Davenport will not be Keys’ full-time coach in 2015. Davenport will talk with Keys when she can, but the 19-year-old will eventually hire a full-time coach next year.

The hard-hitting American has shown promise over the past two years, but she grew a bit frustrated this season after mixed results. After winning a grass-court tournament in Eastbourne in late June, Keys reached a career-high No. 27, but she was unable to get past any quarterfinals and went 9-9 to close out her season.

Currently ranked No. 31, Keys has worked with USTA coaches Juan Todero and Jay Gooding. Davenport, a former No. 1, consistently served big and developed a strong forehand and backhand. But she also showed patience, an important quality of her success. While Keys is one of the biggest servers and can also attack with her forehand, she can be impatient, something Davenport will surely work on during their time together.
