I never saw it, but I read somewhere about Lindsay smashing the machine that beeps when the balls skims the net on a serve? does anyone know anything about that?
LOL, I was watching that mixed doubles match too - it was so funny! I think they were on court 13 or 18 and Lindsay heard it from centre courts (possibly from the speakers of the giant TV on the side of court 1) and also the number 3 apeared on that code thing, three meaning "get ready to cover the courts" and 5 meaning "play suspended". So Lindsay heard the announcement and saw the number "3" and started to put her jacket on.
It was so funny, the unpire and the other three players were looking at her and smirking......Lindsay looked around, looked at the umpire in a confused way. I was really laughing over that moment, when she was asking bob and her opponants if they'd heard it - too funny.
Also, the other moment you refer to is during the wimbledon womens doubles final of 1999. It was Lindsay/Corina vs. De Swardt/Tatarkova in that final. It think it was 4-4 in the second and De Swardt was serving at 30-40 so Lindsay/Corina, if they got this point would serve for the championship. De Swardt hit a serve that (clearly) court the net - the serve barely reached the service line, so when Lindsay hit the return it went into the net. The Umpire never called "let" so the score was called "deuce"
Lindsay, Corina and their opponants looked a little confused, De Swardt/Tatarkova turned their backs as Lindsay aproached the umpire quite calmly at first saying, "surely that was a let!?", "no," the umpire said "the let cord didn't beep, so it wasn't a let." Then Lindsay got a little more irritated; "WHAT!? because the let cord didn't beep you're not calling a let!? - That was clearly a let!"....."I want someone on this court calling the let cords"....the the umpire was saying, "The cord didn't go off, I'm calling it".
Lindsay continued, getting more and more aggressive, "on such an important point, you rely on a machine to call the let!?".....By this time Corina try's to talk to Lindsay and try's to tell her to calm down, but Lindsay turns back to the net, draws her racket over her head and smacks it down, so hard on the net cord! Then she turned to the umpire and said, sarcastically, "did it go off then!?", she hit it again and walked off......the umpire called for an official to monitor the let cord - Lindsay won her argument, but not the point.
If I remember rightly, it became a long duece game, with Lindsay/Corina breaking serve for a 5-4 lead. Corina sucessfully serves out the match for a 6-4, 6-4 victory! What a moment, and what a great day it was for Lindsay fans - 4th July 1999!
