Yes, I have noticed that Lindsay's footwork has been impecable! For those who are watching the match again, just listen to how much Lindsay's shoes cause squeaks on the surface of the court. I know this happens on a hard court, but I noticed that Lindsay was moving her feet as soon as her opponants toss goes up.
Usually, at the point of the opponants ball toss, Lindsay normally just raises her upper body from the leaning position. What I noticed during these Hard Court tournies, if you close your eyes and listen, you will notice that Lindsay is moving her feet about before her opponant has struck the ball on serve!
By the time the ball is struck, Lindsay's loosened up and prepared for the service return - which I think is the reason that her returning games vs. the Williams' have been amazing.
Also, Lindsay has been running down balls - as LindsayRulez has mentioned - and for the last 3 years I have often screamed at the TV, "Come on Lindsay, at least run the balls down and make them play another". It seems my relentless TV screaming sessions have paid off because that is exactly what Lindsay is doing now. By doing this, she is drawing errors from her opponants.
Adding to that, the fact that I have often insisted - again, towards the TV - that Lindsay plays balls down the middle vs. either Williams sister to cut down angles. This is more effective, as demonstrated against Venus, when hit deep down the middle of the court, to the forehand. It really does break down strong opponants stratagies of, "hit the ball hard from side to side, wear down the player and eventually hit a winner".
I am so amazed at the fact that Lindsay is playing so well, I knew it was there, I was just hoping it would make a show before she retires
and it has! I think having a personal Physisian and Trainer has really enabled Lindsay to develope these strengths and abilities.
Muchos respectos to Lindsay!
Rock on to San Diego and the US Open!
