Lucie Ahl announces retirement

Exeter's Lucie Ahl has exclusively revealed to BBC Sport that she has decided to retire from professional tennis after the US Open in August.
The 28-year-old, who is currently ranked at 211 in the world, is the British number three.

"I have been playing for 12 years - it is time to call it a day," she admitted.

Ahl received a wildcard for this year's Wimbledon where she lost 3-6 6-4 6-4 to 13th seed Ai Sugiyama in the first round.

"I only lost narrowly at Wimbledon and I may have continued if I had got through.

"But I didn't and I have made the decision and feel that I've given my all in the time that I've played and have made many sacrifices."

Announcement on gbtennisgirls:
Lucie is to run an elite squad at Queens Club, including Clare and Laura Peterzen and Mallanie South.
The report also states that she will play at the US Open in September.

Man, proud man, drest in a little brief authority, most ignorant of what hes most assured,
his glassy essence, like an angry ape, plays such fantastic tricks before high heaven,
as makes the angels weep.
