Brits in 2008

Hi all.

Who do people think will have a great/bad 2008

And will we be thinking about there ranking this time next year:

I think it be something like the following:

name World ranking
Stoop 80-100
Cavaday 80-100
Bally 80-100
Elliott 100-150
Broady 100-150
Brown 100-150

I have no idead how katie, anne and Mel will do, as anne and katie had good years can they push on?

Mel i think will have a great first 6 months due to having barely any points to defend...bbut could get up to british number one at some point

What do people think

Re: Brits in 2008

Interesting post.

As you say, Mel has no points to defend until May and could really move up the rankings next year.

Anne, Bally and Natasha all appear to be injured at the moment, so will depend on their fitness.

Katie could push into the top 100 soon.

Naomi and Georgie should also really move up along with Sarah.

Will be interesting to see who is chosen for Fed Cup.

Re: Brits in 2008

Broady and Brown wont be top 200 by 2008 Cavaday's movement isnt good enough for all surfaces and therefore nor top 100.

Stoop can be top 150
Baltacha also top 150
South top 150
O'Brien top 100 ??
Keothavong top 100 !
Curtis top 250/300

Re: Brits in 2008

and Fed Cup team should be...

1 Anne Keothavong
2 Melanie South
3 Naomi Cavaday
4 Georgie Stoop

we dont need Calire Curran, South can play great doubles as can Keothavong !

Claire retired and is coaching. Did you mean to miss Katie out of your Fed Cup team?

Re: Brits in 2008

I think Anne and Katie will get very close to the top 100, they might do it they might not.

Bally, if fit, should be close aswell.

I think Naomi should get into the top 100 but you just don't know. Her results post US open have been a little dissapointing but shes had a few niggles so maybe if she gets healthy she can do it.

Mel should get top 150.

Sarah back around 200 can;t see her getting much higher unless she wins a match in MD wimbledon.

Georgie Should get top 200/top 150. With Anna F hot on her heels.

Tash and Anna Smith SHOULD both break into the top 300 but who knows?

Jade Curtis and Amanda Elliott will be top 400 maybe top 300.

Naomi B, Kat Brown, Tara Moore, should be in the 400's maybe just in the 300's.

I'd like to see Liz Thomas get into the top 500. Shes so close now a few good events and shes there.

The thing is you never know who'll decide to quit or who will go off to UNI or who will get an injury and fall. My predictions are based on what should happen if everything goes OK which is obviously wont.

Have i missed anyone out?

Oh Yasmin Clarke, she should be around 500

GOOD LUCK IN 2014 GB TENNIS GIRLS

Naomi Broady, Tara Moore, Heather Watson , Laura Robson

Johanna Konta, Eleanor Dean
, Sam Murray
Katy Dunne Katie Boulter

Re: Brits in 2008

Here comes the pessimist
Each year we have one lucky girl who gets a nasty injury It also seems to happen to a rising star, like Georgie this year. Katie seems long overdue a serious injury, so maybe we will be missing Katie for a period of 2008

The way Katie plays is quite good on her body, South hits very hard (wrist problems), Keothavong runs alot down and has a skinny frame (rib injury).

As I said O'Brien has a decent build and a good technique for most shots so injury should be at a minamum.

Re: Brits in 2008

I must admit i only get to follwo the brits results, and only really get to see themplay at wimbledon...

Could anyone tell me what people need to work on to get up there with the elite? i mean i have seen cavaday and like most people the movement seems to be the big issue..
But i know very little about the other girls that are on the up... do any of them have world class weapons and it is it just one weakness in there game which is topping them making great strides.

I think 2008 is make or brake for Keothavong...if she has a good consistent season she can make top 75

I saw Mel South at Felixstowe this year and she hits the ball very, very hard. Unfortunately she just loses her head sometimes. She was leading 6-1 4-2, then lost 6-1 5-7 4-6 After leading she couldn't hit a couple of good shots in a row. I think she just struggles with confidence sometimes

Re: Brits in 2008

Well I can see anne getting to top 100 next year because she can pick up points in many places in the first half of the year. Hopefully she'll be able to get into wimbledon MD by rank not w/c.

Mel South top 150

Bally top 150
