QF vs. (6) Liubov Vasilyeva RUS (#722)

Also the top seed in doubles with Nancarrow (AUS). They beat a Finnish WC team 6-1 6-1 in R1 and then another Finnish WC team 6-0 6-0 in QF
SF vs. Czarnik POL/Lysakova RUS

And she reached a new career-high this week, 309!

EDIT-Just realized she turns 19 today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
6-2 6-1 in QF
SF d. (5) Beatrice Cedermark SWE (#723) 6-2 6-4
F d. (4) Anastasia Pivovarova RUS (#709, former top 100) 6-4 7-5
That's a really good win for her, and another title, just awesome

She has also been doing great in doubles
They won the semis 6-1 6-0 and then beat (3) Laine FIN/Pivovarova RUS (both former top 100 players) 6-2 6-3 in the final

Saw these in the tournament thread :

Maria Sakkari is destined for at least Top50 IMO, powerful 1st serve, good 2nd serve, hits strong from both sides, moves well and is very athletic, like a new version of Amelie Mauresmo but with 2handed BH

Re: Following the Family Tradition: Maria Sakkari

Another 10K Finland:
R1 d. (Q) Daria Ponomareva RUS (NR) 6-0 6-0
R2 d. Laura Gulbe LAT (#1221) 6-0 6-0
QF d. (8) Diana Bogoliy UKR (#904) 6-3 6-3
SF d. Eveliina Virtanen SWE (NR) 7-6(2) 6-2
F l. to (4) Emma Laine FIN (#786, former top 50) 3-6 7-5 0-6
Too bad that she couldn't win it all, but she must have been tired. She wasn't losing games the first two matches and then played opponents with similar rankings and was losing more games. Also in the final I expected her to lose since she was playing a former top 50 player from Finland in Finland. The third set bagel just shows probably how tired she was

Maria also played doubles but lost the final 4-6 6-7(2) to (2) Bogoliy UKR/Laine FIN. Not a bad loss once again since she played Laine and must have been tired obviously. I wonder if she would've had more energy for singles if she skipped doubles this week (the doubles final was played the day before the singles final)

Anyways, Maria is up to another career-high, 298!
She has won 43 of her last 49 singles matches

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.

She also withdrew from her next two tournaments, a 25K in Romania and a 25K in the Netherlands
Hopefully the injury is not too serious, because she is also scheduled to play a 25K in Bulgaria the week of 8 September

Get well soon, Maria!

Re: Following the Family Tradition: Maria Sakkari

The injury must be really bad because she withdrew from the Bulgarian 25K but now she's on the list for the 10K in Spain the week of 15 September so hopefully she can be healthy enough to play in that one

Re: Following the Family Tradition: Maria Sakkari

She's back
Played a 10K in Madrid, I guess she thinks it's best to start here since she was injured and needs to regain her form
She was the top seed

R1 d. (Q) Maria del Rosario Canero Perez ESP (#1123) 6-2 6-1
R2 d. (Q) Karola Patricia Bejenaru ROU (NR) 6-1 6-2
QF d. (Q) Georgina Garcia-Perez ESP (#1028) 6-1 7-5
SF vs. (4) Lucia Cervera-Vazquez ESP (#376) 5-7 2-6
Lucia already beat her in June so I guess it's just a bad matchup for Maria.
Lucia ended up winning the title
Although Maria was 2/15 on break points

Also Maria was top-seeded in doubles this week and they won the title!
Ironically she beat Cervera-Vazquez in doubles, but couldn't do the same in singles

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari

Re: Following the Family Tradition: Maria Sakkari

Even though Maria was injured, she climbed up to a new career-high of 284.
Although now she's at 287

Her injury really messed things up
Hopefully she can still finish strong this season, but I wanted her to make AO qualies and now it looks less likely but she still has a chance I guess

Too bad though that it ruined her form. She was scheduled to play a lot of 25Ks but now I guess she's sticking to 10Ks for the time being since she is defending some points from last year

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.

Re: Following the Family Tradition: Maria Sakkari

After hardly making any progress in 2012 and 2013, 2014 was a huge year for Maria and she is starting to live up to her potential. Unfortunately she got injured in August and then again shortly afterwards, so that stalled her progression a little. However she seems to be re-gaining form and I’m sure we will see her play some GS qualifying in 2015. If she wasn't injured, I have no doubt that we would’ve seen her in Melbourne.

Also I'd like to add that she had the second-most wins on the ITF women's circuit this year

2015 Goals:
-Stay healthy
-Continue to have good results and rise up the rankings. End the year top 125/top 150.
-Play GS qualies
-Win a challenger (25K or above) title

Looks like she'll start her 2015 season playing a 25K challenger in Plantation, Florida where she will be in the main draw

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.
