Re: Goddess in training: Despina Papamichail

She is the leader of our Fed Cup team this year due to the absence of Eleni, Eirini, and Anna

It will be tough and she needs to be strong. She will get some good experience from this especially if she wins, She has never played Fed Cup singles before and never a live rubber, This should be interesting . Would be nice t see how she plays against Babos and Larsson. But she needs to take her chances against Tinjic!!!!

She is in bad form so that is really not good. She lost in the first round of a 10K in the UK to some random girl ranked in the 700s, Manisha Foster, 1-6 5-7 . And then she lost in the first round of quailes at a 25K in France, 2-6 3-6 to Ivakhnenko . She also played doubles there but lost in the first round. But she got some nice experience playing against Dentoni and Knapp

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari

Re: Goddess in training: Despina Papamichail

Hungary 3-0 Greece
S1: Reka-Luca Jani (HUN) def. Maria Sakkari (GRE) 6-4 7-5
S2: Timea Babos (HUN) def. Despina Papamichail (GRE) 6-4 6-0
D: Babos/Marosi (HUN) def. Papamichail/Agni (GRE) 6-2 6-4

Not bad. She kinda faded away after the first set in singles but great job in doubles. Babos and Marosi are both phenomenal doubles players

Despina needs to play the role of Fed Cup hero tomorrow against Bosnia...Good Luck!

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.

Re: Goddess in training: Despina Papamichail

Lost to Bosnia

Despina lost 6/7 2/6 to Tinjic . But now I see that Tinjic beat Babos so it can't be that bad
She played doubles with Sakkari but they lost 4/6 7/5 0/6 to Stanivuk/Tinjic

Today we lost to Sweden. Despina beat Melander 6/4 6/4 but played doubles with Stefanou and lost to Allgurin/Melander 1/6 2/6

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.

Re: Goddess in training: Despina Papamichail

Despina is a true hero
We may have lost today, but she made me so proud. She beat Kremer, a former top 20 player, 57 64 75 in a very up and down match to keep us alive. Then in the dramatic doubles, she carried the team. We split the first two sets and then were down 1-5 in the third and then started saving match points like crazy to get it to 5-5 and then a third set TB where we continued to save MPs and then even had one of our own before losing 10-8 . Despinas fighting spirit is amazing and I hope that she carries this with her to her next tournament instead of crying about the loss. She really did her best to step up in the absence of our best players and the future looks good for her . She made a name for herself out there. She worked her ass off and was fighting for her life and made the world know who she is and what she is made of

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.

Re: Goddess in training: Despina Papamichail

25K Rabat:
32 L Anne SCHAEFER (GER) 5-7 3-6

partnering Elitsa KOSTOVA (BUL)
16 L THORPE (FRA) / TORRO-FLOR (ESP) 3-6 3-6

She needs to pick up her form, but she is playing two French 10K's in the next two weeks. They are very very strong for 10Ks. The fields in them are like weak 25Ks. She should play in Antalya instead. Those tournaments are weaker...

Re: Goddess in training: Despina Papamichail

10K FranceR1:
(LL)Oceane Dodin (FRA) d. (5)Despina Papamichail (GRE) 16 62 64

She is so bad this year
She needs to pick up her form soon . She is losing in the first round of 10Ks to random girls that she would've beaten even like 4 years ago

For a consolation, she is in the doubles semis, even though she had a bye and then beat some useless scrubs

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
