Re: The SS Dementieva, New Horizons
NOW IS THE TIME THE NEW VP CAN USE HER INFLUENCE AND KNOWLEDGE...DAVAI ELENA
"Throughout my career, I've always aspired to such victories in honor of whom I raised the Russian flag. And now, after my retirement from the sport, my thoughts and desire to be useful at home. Thank you"said Elena after the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev awarded her with the 'Order of Merit of the Fatherland'
ED: Relations, it is honest to say, were not the best. They did not know us, they did not expect us, and in principle did not want us. I remember, after the first large victories questions were posed to me of the sort “as you mainly came out to beat first racket Lindsey Davenport…?”. But gradually by our results we deserved respect. Now they love and await Russian tennis players at any tournament.
Clarity plus diplomacy. Elena employs two different "they"s. They who love and await Russian players are the fans and some tournament organizers. However, there is another "they" whose Russophobia has only hardened--that is, the tennis establishment embodied in the commentariat, WTA bureaucrats and specific, identifiable, tournament bosses.
I doubt RTF will deploy Elena in her new capacity out of country immediately. But sometime, WTA will have to sit across a table from her--I'd love to be a fly on the wall to see the bureaucrats squirm.
