Elena lost badly in a few matches that were partly thanks to her service game. I can still remember that 2 and 0 drubbing she got from Capriati back in the '01 Miami semis. Jenn was smacking big serves and using that power to minimise any chance of Elena breaking serve, and she was making big returns on Elena's serve.
It's just that no matter how good of a returner Elena is, and how awesome her groundstrokes are, there's always a chance that Elena won't be able to break serve as much as she'd like.
want Elena to become world no.1, GS champion some day, but it gets frustrating when she does get a chance to become that, it's the damn serve that breaks her down. It's like every step forward Elena makes, the serves brings her a couple of steps back.
Btw, I saw the interview on the RG site after the final, and she looked pretty beat up. I was
for her, but I was hoping that maybe you're right, she's finally really woken up to the real importance of a solid serve and maybe start hard work to improve it.
Elena's got the coach and now, probably the experience to help improve on her nerves in big occassions, so I don't really see any real excuses for Elena to not work hard on her game now.
