Red face Natasha Subhash

Since Tyra, Caty, Amanda, Whitney and now Abby all have their own cheering thread now, here is one for 14 yo Natasha (born Sept 2, 2001) who is very talented too!

She won U16 USTA National Selection Tournament in Erie, PA in February, and U16 USTA International Spring Championships in Carson, CA in March; plus she's made 3 more finals this year - at Cat. 1 G14 Properties Christmas Cup in January (losing to top seed Anastasia Potapova, 2 & 1 in the final), at U16 USTA National Spring Tournament (Easter Bowl) in Indian Wells in April, and at U16 National Clay Court Championships in Virgiania Beach in July (both finals she lost to Samantha Martinelli ).

She has made 2 G4 QFs this year as well: at the International Grass Court Championships in PA in June - she received a MDWC there, beat 3rd seed Jessica Livianu 7-6(1) 6-2 in R1, and Jiakang Li 7-5 7-5 in R2, before getting double-bagelled by 8th seed Caty McNally (who went on to win the whole thing in the end) in QF ; and at Wichita Falls ITF just last week - she was the 7th seed there, beat (Q)Jayci Goldsmith 4 & 4 in R1, (Q)Mary Caroline Meredith 4 & 1 in R2, and Abigail Forbes 3 & 2 in R3, before falling to 14th seed Ellie Douglas (who had just slain 2nd seed Mia Horvit in R3, and eventually won the tournament beating top seed Sofia Sewing in the final) in QF, 0 & 4.

In August, she lost 6-1 6-7(8) 3-6 to 15th seed Whitney Osuigwe in SFs of the U16 USTA National Championships in San Diego so she "only" received a QWC at the USO.
But she made an excellent use of it, upsetting (9)Mihika Yadav 4 & 2 in Q1, and Olivia Hauger 3-6 7-5 6-4 in Q2, and even winning a match in the MD - 6-3 1-6 6-1 over Beatrice Torelli in R1 Natasha fell to (11)Fanny Stollar, 0 & 3 in R2.

She also won her R1 match at the G1 USO warm-up in Maryland, where she was given a MDWC, two weeks before, 3 & 3 over Phillis Vanenburg (she lost 2 & 2 to former junior #2 (6)Iryna Shymanovich in R2 ).

And this week she's continuing her good form - following her QFs in Wichita - as she qualified for the R3 of G1 Jerry Simmons Pan American Closed ITF Championships in Tulsa! She beat (11)Kariann Pierre-Louis 2 & 2 in R1, and (WC)Layne Sleeth 3 & 1 in R2 today
She will face Abigail Desiatnikov in R3 tomorrow!

She's at a new CHR of 483 (+98) this week... Good luck to her in her career!

Re: Natasha Subhash

Indian American teen Natasha Subhash creates history, wins singles and doubles titles at 2015 Atlanta ITF tournament

Subhash, 14, is on the verge of breaking into the girls top 200 in ITF rankings.

Natasha Subhash (left) and Ann Li after winning the 2015 Atlanta ITF tournament.

Quote:
NEW YORK: Indian American teenager Natasha Subhash, 14, from Virginia, has created history by winning the girls’ singles and doubles titles, at the 2015 Atlanta ITF tournament, played on hard courts at the Life Time Athletic at Peachtree Corners. Subhash is the first player of Indian-origin to achieve the rare double in an international tennis tournament.Subhash capped a week of tremendous tennis by clinching the girls’ singles title in the International Tennis Federation tournament on Sunday, beating Layne Sleeth of Canada, 14, in straights 6-3, 6-1, in the final. Subhash was down 1-3 in the first set, before outclassing her opponent. Subhash had beaten the number seeded player in the tournament, Morgan Coppoc, 16, of the US, in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, in the semi-finals.Subhash dropped only one set in the entire tournament on her way to the singles and doubles championship.Subhash beat Mary Caroline Meredith, (USA), 6-2, 6-2, in the first round; Tate Schroeder (USA), 6-3, 6-1 in the second round; Alexa Noel (USA), 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the third round; and Ali Collins of Great Britain in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 7-6 (5), before she dispatched Coppoc and Sleeth with ease.Subhash had on Saturday won the girls’ doubles championship with her long-time playing partner Ann Li (USA), 15, defeating Ali Collins of Great Britain and River Hart of Canada in the final, 6-2, 6-4.Subhash and Li began their campaign by beating Cameron Compall (USA)/Dante Hart (Canada) 6-2, 6-1 in the first round; Meghana Komarraju/Shelly Yaloz (USA) 7-5, 6-2, in the second round; Chloe Beck and Kacie Harvey (USA) in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-1; and Hailey Baptiste/Alexa Noel of the US in the semi-finals, 6-1, 6-2.Subhash and Li are now on a 10-0 streak in the doubles, winning their second consecutive ITF tournament, having clinched the Pan American title as well.Earlier this year, Subhash and Li were on an 18-0 winning run before that streak ended at the US Open in May, in the first round. In that US Open doubles match, Subhash played despite having a knee injury and hours after she had lost her second round singles match. In a phone interview from South Carolina, where she begins yet another ITF tournament tomorrow, on Monday, Subhash told The American Bazaar that she’s played Sleeth before and so knew her game.“I’m happy I won the singles and the doubles title,” said Subhash.Asked what aspect of her game has improved after the US Open, she said: “The US Open gave me a lot of confidence. My movement on court and consistency overall has improved.”

Quote:
Asked if she intended to keep playing both singles and doubles, or plan to focus only on singles, Subhash, who is on the verge of breaking into the top 200 in the ITF junior girls’ ranking, said: “Since I’m doing well I’m going to keep playing doubles as well.”There are only 4 players who are 14 years old in the ITF top 500, with only one girl, from Russia, in the top 200, at present. Subhash, who turned 14 in September, will reach yet another milestone when she breaks into the top 200.Subhash also said that she is focused on her school work, and spends daily 2-3 hours on her online program, despite the hectic ITF schedule, and living off a suitcase traveling from one city to another.Subhash has already the distinction of being the youngest Indian American girl to play in a Grand Slam. She was given a wild card by the United States Tennis Association at the 2015 US Open, and won three matches in 4 days, including two qualifying rounds, despite suffering a knee injury in her second match.Subhash is at present the number one ranked player in the US, in girls’ singles and doubles under-16.

http://www.itftennis.com/news/226131.aspx

"Fourth seed Mai Hontama is the highest ranked player to fall, losing to Natasha Subhash of the USA 76 (4) 62.

The 14-year-old Subhash, currently ranked No. 139, lives in Fairfax, Virginia. Her parents, dad Subhash Kongassery, an IT specialist, and mom, Sulekha, a history teacher, moved to the USA from Delhi, India in 1997. Dad initially introduced Natasha to tennis by feeding her balls at age five in the basement of their home, but eventually moved her outdoors and onto a real tennis court."

What a great story is Natasha. Seems to be a solid young player. I haven't really had a chance to see her play, but at 14, so much can change as her game matures
