Re: 25k Fort Walton Beach
On the bright side, she got a win yesterday and looks like she tried today.
On the "reality" side, her win was against a player ranked 800, it was a tough three-setter at that, and she just got spanked in the qualifying for one of the lowest challenger tier events possible. She gains nothing -- no points, no glimpse of hope. Plus, Ft. Walton Beach has got to be one of the most DEPRESSING venues for any Challenger. Cracked and uneven courts. BADdddd neighborhood. Grungy facility. This was her last chance to remotely do anything. Bovina is hardly some intimidating force in tennis, obviously, being forced to play qualifying for a 25K herself. Alexandra's tumbling ranking does not even allow her to qualify for QUALIFYING at the upcoming little evnts in Clearwater and Osprey, to say nothing aboout the Bahamas event. I have a feeling that she and her mother would have to paddle over to Nassau in a kayak even if she did qualify. If she can't manage qualifying rounds for 25Ks at this late stage, she either needs to play 10Ks or call it a day.
I can't believe the mother may be goading her daughter to keep embarrassing herself like this, but it isn't as if Alexandra is a child. Quite the contrary. Waitressing would be more respectable at this juncture than constantly going nowhere, nowhere, nowhere.
I can hear it now:
"Alexandra, you are the most talented woman on the entire tour, in the entire world. YOU deserve the number one ranking! It's yours. Someone stole it from you! You are only losing all the time because everyone else is jealous of your superiority, so they all try harder to beat you. It's the same as CHEATING! If you keep fighting until you're 40, like Kimiko Date, you will win Wimbledon again for sure. Just 9 more years of this. Give me 9 more years!!!!"
"Can't you just shut up for once, mother?"
