Re: 2011 Wildcards

Um, it's kind of not, actually. Go find me a country whose players get more than 19 WCs a year in WTA events. Do you expect them to give out 40 WCs a year to Americans or something? I'm sure these same girls who are "snubbed" of a wildcard will get one at another tournament, it's not like there's a shortage of opportunities. Believe it or not, this isn't the only American tournament. That was my point.

And we'll never be royals (royals). It don't run in our blood, That kind of luxe just ain't for us. We crave a different kind of buzz.

Re: 2011 Wildcards

I understand where both of you are coming from. I think 19 is a little low for American wild cards, especially considering how many talented juniors we have coming up. I get frustrated with the choices that are juniors from other countries, like Tomjlanovic. I can think of a couple USA juniors and even some other foreign juniors who would be much more deserving.

I don't begrudge tournaments that give MDWCs to former top players who have struggled with either injuries or confidence lately. Lisicki, Cirstea, Mirza, Safina, etc. are all girls who I think were great MDWC choices. It would just be nice I think if every American tournament gave at least one MDWC to an American... there are some, like last year's San Diego tournament, who didn't. That would be unheard of in other countries.

Serena Williams ~ Maria Sharapova ~ Venus Williams ~ Jelena Dokic ~ Melanie Oudin ~ Christina McHale

Vandeweghe ~ Mattek-Sands ~ King ~ Hampton ~ Riske ~ Glatch ~ Brengle ~ Rogers ~ Stephens ~ Boserup ~ Davis ~ Keys ~ Lepchenko ~ Falconi ~ Chirico ~ Crawford ~ Gibbs ~ Pegula ~ Min ~ Townsend ~ Duval ~ Vickery ~ Bellis ~ Ahn

That's good I wonder how far that Sanchez girl will go- her WTT results are impressive, even though it's just WTT.

What's the significance of Townsend? I've never heard of her...
