Susie et. al. , do you know the time in Eastern Standard time? I am getting confused as to what time the goddess will play.

Thanks,

nat vs. asv starts at 5:30 (11:30am est), so I'm assuming that Serena will be starting sometime between 1:30 and 2pm est, depending on how long the other 2 women last. I expect it will be a dogfight.

Looks like Serena hasn't lost her form from the Open. Great win Serena 6-0,6-2!

I hear that Serena will play the winner of the Henin-Anke match? Since that match is tomorrow, when does Serena play again?

<marquee><font size=6 color=magenta>Congratulations Serena on a wonderful victory!</font></marquee>

<font size=4 color=blue>An interview with Serena Williams</font>

Q. How good was it to come back on court?

SERENA WILLIAMS: It was pretty exciting to be back on court. I've been waiting a while. I've been wanting to play a lot of tournaments sooner, but I wasn't able to. It's great to be back.

Q. And have you been surprised that you came back so strong?

SERENA WILLIAMS: No. I've been working really hard at home. I'm on a mission. I have some goals that I set for myself. I have to reach those goals. I'm tired of seeing people ranked ahead of me that just shouldn't be.

Q. You'll be playing Justine Henin or Anke Huber in the next round. Which one do you prefer?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I've never played Anke. I played Justine once. But I think it would be nice for the Germans for Anke to do well here. Really to me, it doesn't matter. It should be a good match, for sure.

Q. Do you know Anke will play maybe her last one?

SERENA WILLIAMS: Yeah. That's why I say it will be nice if she does well here. Other than that, it doesn't really matter to me.

Q. Looked pretty easy out there today. The game is pretty much in line with what you hoped for in the later stages of this tournament?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I don't think I actually served very well today. I missed a few too many first serves. Overall mentally I think I was okay. Things that I worked on, I was able to do. That's why I was able to make it look so easy - if you kind of just attack some balls, be out there less than an hour. I think other than that it was pretty easy. Actually, it wasn't that easy. She played good. She made me run. She made me work. I don't think the score did any justice.

Q. You mentioned goals. What are some of your next goals?

SERENA WILLIAMS: My next goal is to be No. 1. I'm going to have to play more tournaments, play better in the Grand Slams. Honestly, I can do it. I've been motivated. I need to do it. Maybe I can work harder to get to that goal.

Q. There's a good player called Venus, Venus Williams. How about her?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I'm going to have to take down anyone who stands in my way (laughter).

Q. How is she feeling now? Is she hurt with her hand?

SERENA WILLIAMS: We're just having some troubles. We were working hard. It was all muggy in Florida, rainy, just hot. She's having some issues again. But she should be okay soon enough. Don't worry.

Q. You might take advantage of her not being here.

SERENA WILLIAMS: I can't, because I can only play this one tournament. By the time January comes back, she'll be back into it. We're both working hard. It's definitely going to be a rivalry for future reference, for sure.

Q. Is it much the same injury she had before?

SERENA WILLIAMS: Yes.

Q. Is there anything they can do to stop it recurring? She had quite a long layoff last time.

SERENA WILLIAMS: She did have a long layoff last time. I think this time it should be okay. We have a trainer now we work with all the time, so...

Q. What sort of things can she do to try to prevent it?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I would suggest prayer (laughter). Besides rehab and tons of ice.

Q. It's not something that's going to need surgery.

SERENA WILLIAMS: I don't think so, no. We're not too much into surgery. I'm really afraid of that.

Q. What is the score between you two?

SERENA WILLIAMS: What is the score?

Q. How many matches did you win? How many did she win?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I don't know. You guys are the press. You keep up with that, not me. You guys usually have all those stats. I don't usually have all those stats.

Q. I don't believe that you don't know.

SERENA WILLIAMS: I'm sorry. I don't believe I'm still here.

Q. Would you care to elaborate on that?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I mean, I'm ready to go home. I'm tired. I'm hungry. Come on.

Q. In the circumstances of, you know, what has happened with Venus, the injury, are you disappointed that apparently some people seem to think it may not be as bad as has been made out, she might have come just the same? Lindsay was one of the people yesterday who sort of was saying she was a little bit skeptical.

SERENA WILLIAMS: Skeptical?

Q. Yes. She's not sure.

SERENA WILLIAMS: Everyone has their own opinion. You can't stop anyone from having their own opinion. The only people that know the truth are Venus and the people around her. I myself know Venus wasn't on the practice court when I was there. Venus would stay at home when I went to the practice court because she couldn't practice. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I think actually some of us should actually be happy she didn't come instead of complaining about it. I mean, honestly.

Q. If I may say so, that's a good remark. A question about Munich. Are you going to stay here to see something about Munich after you finish the tournament?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I don't know. I want to go home and take a break. I've been working really hard these past few days, these past few weeks. I want to go home, just hang out with my dogs and family without having to do so much tennis things. I just want to take a week off and just relax. I want to be at home. When you're practicing, it's not like you're at home because you're always on the court, stretching, working out, at the gym. I've been here before. I've actually been to the Oktoberfest. I've been a bit of Munich before. Maybe next time.

Q. So you speak some German.

SERENA WILLIAMS: Ich spreche kein Deutsch.<br /> <br />

Well after the "sick break" for you know who, Serena did manage to post a win (and yes, it was a great match to watch, altho I was really concerned at times...you know...her mental lapses...

Loved the play of Henin, tho' she really blew it with her poor serves. Up next, Testud, and I think Rena should be able to dispose of her, that is if she can stay focused, and play like we know she can.

ps. You know all this could have taken place yesterday, without all the drama, if you know what I mean. <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

Those pictures take my breath away. I have such a crush on Serena. I can't believe anyone thinking she looks too masculine, or not attractive. And I am considered pretty fussy.

Thanks so much CanIGetAWhat.....

<font size=3 color="#33FFCC">An interview with Serena Williams - Friday 2nd November 2001</font>

Q. You mentioned last time you wanted to make your way to No. 1 and there were a number of players ahead of you that shouldn't be. Was she one of them? What do you think of her game?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I wouldn't say she is because she works hard, she plays a lot of tournaments, and she wins a lot. So she deserves to be ranked where she is. But I have a decent record. I only played her twice. She played me a lot better this time. I had to make sure. She's working on new things. I think her game from the short time of The Open till now has went up like 50, 60%, which is a lot. I think she did really well. I think she's a good player.

Q. Were you pleased to get it over in straight sets?

SERENA WILLIAMS: Oh, for sure.

Q. Were you dreading a third?

SERENA WILLIAMS: Dreading a third?

Q. Yes.

SERENA WILLIAMS: No. I could be out there ten hours, it wouldn't matter. I'm all day. I stay all day. I'm in the best shape right now, mm-hmm. Actually, I'm ready to go run a marathon really quick (laughter).

Q. Did you have problems staying concentrated in the second set, especially on her serve? Basically the only points you won the last couple games on her serve were double-faults.

SERENA WILLIAMS: Really? No, I lost focus a bit. But I was able to come back. I never doubted the fact that I would win. I just never doubt that I am going to go out. I don't think like that anymore at all.

Q. Are you still not surprised to play so well after not playing tournaments for a month and a half?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I really didn't think I played that great today. I played decent in the first set. I was at home, I was working really hard on my serve. It's still not coming for me right now. Next round hopefully it will be better. I'm not doing bad (smiling).

Q. Have you ever won a match point that way before? Have you ever won a point in that way before?

SERENA WILLIAMS: No, not at all. That was crazy. I kept trying to come to the net. It's like, "Come on, come on." Finally I made it. A volley. Another volley. "No." Another volley. "No." She hit a lob. It was on the backhand, too. I was like, "Gosh." But I practiced that shot in practice. Venus and I, when we're at home, my dad always has us work on those shots. The little doubles that we do play, I hit that shot well.

Q. Did you have a broken string on your racquet on that point or not?

SERENA WILLIAMS: No. When I was younger actually my dad used to always say, "Every time you break a string, don't change the racquet immediately, play the point out." These days, if I break a string, I walk off the court and get a new racquet. Those years of doing that eventually paid off a bit.

Q. Your string wasn't broken on that match point?

SERENA WILLIAMS: It was. It was broken three different places. It was crazy.

Q. You say you're in good shape now. You say you could go and run a marathon.

SERENA WILLIAMS: Well, maybe not (smiling).

Q. You're in good shape. Really, has the end of the season come at the wrong time for you?

SERENA WILLIAMS: No, not at all. I'm a real health nut now. I don't think so. You know what, tennis players don't really get much time off. I can only take a week, at the most a week and a half off, before I start practicing again. I don't think it came at the wrong time. I think if I can end this year on a good note, very positive. I don't have many points to defend in Australia - actually nowhere except for The Open I did well. Other than that, I lost in the quarterfinals. It's pretty easy to get to the quarterfinals.

Q. Have you and Venus got any school stuff from now till Australia?

SERENA WILLIAMS: Yeah. I thought I was going to play all -- I was supposed to play like five tournaments this fall. I only entered one class. If I had known I was going to play one tournament, I would have been in more classes. I'm only in one class. I actually had a class online. That's really simple. You can take your computer and go anywhere. I didn't get in any classes because I thought I was going to play a full fall schedule.

Q. Where are you planning to start the year? How much are you going to play through to the Lipton?

SERENA WILLIAMS: You guys are going to get tired of seeing me. Let's put it that way. I'm going to be everywhere, "Hey."

Q. Will you be in Sydney?

SERENA WILLIAMS: Yeah, yeah.

Q. Is there anything in particular you hope to show in your game next year that you've been trying to get into it before but it really hasn't come the way you'd like it to?

SERENA WILLIAMS: Yeah, for sure. There's something in particular I've been really working on - actually a few things. You guys are going to be really excited to see in January (laughter).
