Re: Team USA's Player of the Week for October 11th - Lilia Osterloh
Player of the Week for October 25 Goes to...
Lauren Davis picks up her first POTW nod for winning the 25K in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Lauren had to go through Qualifying just to make the Main Draw. She got a first round bye in Qualies and would qualify after beating Sanesi 6-3 6-1. In the Main Draw, Lauren drew fellow Qualifier Krivencheva and eased to a 6-1 6-3 win. Lauren would then have to play top seed Ajla Tomljanovic. Lauren would go down 6-3 before turning it around completely as she cruised through the next 2 sets 6-1 6-0. In the QFs, Lauren beat Sloane Stephens again, having beaten her at the Girls 18s Nationals earlier in the summer. Lauren would beat her this time in a much tighter match, 6-3 4-6 6-4. In the SFs, Lauren would take down Irigoyen 6-2 6-3. This set up a clash between Lauren and Madison Keys, where Lauren would edge her out 7-6(5) 6-4. This would be Lauren's biggest ITF title. A great week for Lauren to make her this week's POTW.
Madison Keys. Madison Keys for making the Finals of the 25K Bayamon. In the first round, Madison started off slow, but picked up her form as she beat Jones 2-6 6-2 6-2. Madison would then play 3rd seed Molinero and would ease past her 6-2 6-1. Madison followed this up with a 6-4 7-6(4) victory over Lauren Albanese. Madison would get some luck in the SFs, as she would win the first set 7-5 before Konta would retire. Madison would fall short though of getting the title as she would go down to Lauren Davis 7-6(5) 6-4. A great week for Madison on the ITF tour.
Sloane Stephens. Sloane Stephens came into the 25K Bayamon event as the 5th seed and in the first round she crushed Abluquerque 6-2 6-1. Sloane then took down Harkins 7-5 6-2 to make the QFs and set up a rematch of the Girls 18s Nationals SFs with Lauren Davis. Lauren would beat Sloane once again 6-4 3-6 6-3. A good week for Sloane, but came up short against Davis once again.
Lauren Albanese. Lauren came into the 25K Bayamon event as the 6th seed and started off her week well with a 6-3 6-4 first round win over Hermenegildo. Lauren would then oust Lena Litvak 6-1 2-6 6-1 to make the QFs, where she lost to Madison Keys 6-4 7-6(4). Lauren continues to find her form slowly.
Jill Craybas. Jill for another solid week, this time at the 100k in Poitiers. In the first round, Jill beat Sandra Zahlavova 6-2 5-7 6-4 in a very tight affair, but Jill's experience and confidence the past few weeks helped her prevail. In the second round, Regina Kulikova would take her down though 6-4 6-4. Another good week for Jill as she stays in the top 100 and continues to solidify her spot in the Australian Open Main Draw.
Lisa Raymond and Vania King. Lisa and Vania for their great years in doubles for being able to make the Year-Ending Championships. Raymond partnered with Stubbs lost in the SFs to Peschke/Srebotnik 7-6(6) 6-3, after fighting back from 5-1 down in the first just to lose it in a tight tiebreak. Vania teamed with Shvedova lost 6-4 6-4 to Pennetta/Shvedova. Despite both Lisa and Vania losing in the SFs, they both had fantastic years in doubles to be a part of 2 of the 4 teams in the event. Vania ended the year #3 and Lisa #9 in the doubles ranks.
Gail Brodsky. Gail for making the 2nd round of 25K Lagos. In the first round, Gail beat Qualifier N'Tcha 6-2 6-2. In the second round though she would fall to 4th seed Melanie Klaffner 6-4 6-4. A good effort from Gail this week.
