Even with the less than stellar US Open series run I think she's shown improvement in two important areas this summer. 1. She's defending her second serve well. It's been a point-donation shot for the longest time, but it's been holding up, for the most part, since Birmingham. 2. She's improved her court positioning. She's not giving up the baseline as quickly or as often as she did in 2010-11, even when she's losing, she doesn't resort to running around 6 feet behind the baseline.
Now that the US Open is over, I'm hoping for a return to the form she had earlier in the year. But, I'm really looking forward to the Australian run. She's never had a breakout there and, with the proper training in offseason, 2013 could be the year. And, having a good run there would take some of the stress off the points she has to defend in Paris and Birmingham.
