Re: Lisa Raymond cheering thread

I feel like they will have a good USO I say finals only If venus and Serena aren't in there section. Liezel has made the finals there the past 4 years, they just won new haven, and got revenge over Andrea and Lucie. I think they look good to have a big uso

Almost about to surpass Natasha

This USO is going to determine if Lisa and Liezel will play together in 2013 IMO

Re: Lisa Raymond cheering thread

NEW HAVEN, CT, USA - Co-World No.1s Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond got back into the WTA winner's circle on Saturday afternoon, winning their fifth title of the year - but first since March - at the New Haven Open at Yale.

In a blockbuster final between two of the best teams currently in the game, the No.1-seeded Huber and Raymond rebounded from a first set loss and rolled past No.2 seeds Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in the second set and ensuing match tie-break to clinch the Premier-level title, 46 60 104.

"We've lost a second set 6-0 before and won a tie-break, and today we won a second set 6-0 and won a tie-break," Huber said. "It's a clean slate going into a tie-break - but winning the set before it 6-0 only helps. Right Lisa?"

"For sure," Raymond said. "Even though a match tie-break is its own entity, winning 6-0 going into it gives you momentum. That can change, but going into it today we were feeling good and we knew we could put the pedal to the metal and play another five minutes of the solid tennis we had played for the last 20."

Huber and Raymond almost didn't go to New Haven, but the aforementioned title drought may have been a motivating factor for all-star American pair.

"If you asked us eight days ago we would have said we're not coming here, but we didn't have a good tournament the week before and we need matches," Huber said. "This was huge. The next match is a new match, but mentally this has shown us we can put our games together and win a title again."

Raymond collected an amazing 79th WTA doubles title. "Winning never gets old," she said. "It would certainly be nice to get No.80 in New York."

A reporter informed Raymond she had more titles than Roger Federer. "That's awesome," she commented. "That's the best stat I've heard all day."

The men's World No.1 has 76 titles. "Oh, that stinks," Raymond joked.

Huber and Raymond are, of course, the defending US Open champions. How do they feel about their biggest US rival team, the Williams sisters?

"I haven't had a win over them," Huber said. "Been three sets. Even with Medina at the French Open one year we were up a break in the third set.

"They're great girls. I love them. I'm glad they're playing the doubles at the US Open. Of course I hope we don't get to play against them, but I'm not even thinking that far ahead. We're just enjoying today and an off day tomorrow."

"Exactly," Raymond added.

Re: Lisa Raymond cheering thread

I would be shocked if they lost before the QFs. Srebotnik/Zheng could pose some problems, and of course Hlavackova/Hradecka in the SFs. I think a SF would be a great effort.

Re: Lisa Raymond cheering thread

^The WTA and ITF does not acknowledge the ITF title.

It was 1990 10k Key Biscayne/Miami ITF with Ronni Reis apparently.
