I would like to start a cheering thread for one of the sweetest young girls out there. Alison is so nice and always smiling. She's had some great results this summer, and let's hope she can do well in the pro's! :worship:

poor Ali, she's still mad as a hornet about that match, normally she gets over it by the 2nd or 3rd day and tweets out something cheerful, but now it's a whole week later and still nothing from her. Of course Ostapenko went right back to playing like dog shit in the next round after that GOAT performance.

If Bencic wins the USO title i am going to fucking puke.

it looks like Ali is skipping the first MM week in Asia, she's ranked high enough now that she can focus on the bigger events. She normally doesn't go to Moscow, but she should definitely consider adding it to her schedule this year, there's a ton of money & points there and she'd be comfortably in main draw, which wasn't the case in previous years... plus if she does well in the Japan/China events, she could even be in the mix to qualify for the Elite Trophy in Zhuhai. Even with the Grand Slams over, there is still a lot left to play for in 2019.

She’s in the new P470 Zhengzhou this week. Faces WC Kerber in the 1st rd.
Then Wuhan/Beijing.

She’s a new career high #34 when the rankings are released Monday. But currently #27 in the Race. It would be amazing to see her finish the year in the Top 30.

Alison lost to Saisai Zheng 7-5 6-3 in 2R... not too surprised by this actually as Ali doesn't have a very good record playing against the girls who she is closest friends with on tour. The rainout yesterday probably didn't help her either.

on the bright side, how adorable is this?

It's a promo video she did for the Birmingham tournie in June 2014. I just found it for the first time, apologies if it was already posted somewhere here and everyone already watched it.

Final vs Sabalenka

Another very strong week. She is in the best form of her life !

to me she looked tired and passive at the end... very tight win !

Tomljanovic is one of the worst player under pressure, so obviously a happy end for Ali !

incredible she's top 20 today !

What a year, unimaginable before the grass season...

i watched her defeat in Monterrey against Vickery, and she choked so hard...

just wow at all this risky business lately. Thrashing Svitolina like that (on a 0-3 H2H!) and then taking out Kvitova who was in good form was amazing to watch. Ali's bus finally ran out of gas today against Osaka, but not before she got a really valuable win against Tomljanovic to take advantage of her special exemption bye and pick up R16 points (and $$$!) at a PM. She's on the edge of the Top 20 now, she's earned a seeding at the AO even if she doesn't defend those Shenzen points, and there's a good chance that she'll be flying the USA flag next summer at the Olympics. Hopefully Alison can get a couple more wins in Tianjin next week and head into the off-season on a high note, maybe even a Top 20 finish for the year, and with plenty of room to add points in the first half of next season...

edit: Alison didn't go to Tianjin, she was obviously pretty worn out from the prior weeks. But she is now #20 in the rankings, which supposedly gives her some kind of late entry priveleges, so she might be planning to play next week in Moscow or Luxx... if she moves up to #18, she'll probably qualify for the Elite Trophy (nobody expects Williams to play the YEC and 1 other W/D always seems to happen), and even #19 would make her the alternate. So maybe not done yet for 2019 after all.

“In 2009, I turned professional and gave up a scholarship to play at Vanderbilt. I was ranked around 220 when I had a family friend offer to support me and my coach until I could support myself. (He changed my life forever!) Out of everyone in my family, I was the one who doubted whether I was going to succeed on tour.⁣

My dad was a marine, a secret service agent and an FBI private investigator. He has a strong personality and is extremely disciplined and tough. I started playing tennis when I was three. My dad would take me out every single day. At first, he had me play without a net in front of our house. As I got older and transitioned to the real court, that is when he really forced me to put in the hours - kind of against my will. Competing was the one thing that held my interest to the sport because I liked to battle and win from a young age. Honestly, I owe everything to my dad. If it weren't for him, there is no chance I would be where I am today. My mom has a sweet and simple personality and is fairly opposite of my dad so She kept things light around the house and balanced out the tennis talk from my dads end. But, luckily, she was on the same page as my dad with my tennis and wanting me to earn a college scholarship.⁣

When that scholarship offer did happen, they believed in me enough to give it up and encouraged me to go after it. I have now been on tour for twelve years and I had my best season last year which was my eleventh year on the circuit. I take pride in that fact because I put in a lot of effort and work over those years to get where I am today and I didn’t back down and think that that was as good as I was going to get. ⁣

I was inside the Top 75 for six years while players I beat in juniors and early in the pro ranks had already broken into the Top 20/Top 10. I was putting in the work but wasn’t achieving the same ranking. I was playing Grand Slams and making a career for myself but I wasn’t where I thought I belonged. I knew I had to exhaust everything possible so that I had no regrets, therefore I started working with a life coach and then a sports psychologist.”
