Not knowing the facts, but I could hazard as guess. Basically able to play in team events like Davis Cup because the chances of doing it in Australia are minimal. This brings more money to them, greater profile in that country and the chance to play in a prestigious event.

Oz players like Jurek Stasiak (Poland), Taso Vasilidis (Greece) have done it.... the biggest case I can recall was Rusedski to Great Britiain which was extremely money driven.

The same thing happens in cricket, (Holioakes, White for England). And in other sports it's not like Australia doesn't do it either. Tatiana Gregorieva and all those wrestlers & weightlifters etc... Australia has happily embraced for prestige and medals.

There's more to life than just being happy.

that's harsh ausboy.

if his heart is with serbia then i dont see why he should be playing for us...its his choice, and not really a big loss anyway cos he is notexactly a huge talent.

Good luck to the Aussie and Balkan girls!

I think there is a huge problem if your heart if with another country that hasnt been your home ever!

He's purely made the switch to have the experience of Davis Cup which he would never get in Australia and also to reap the financial little rewards of doing so. Its pure selfishness and disrespectful towards Tennis Australia and all the other Australian Tennis Coaches etc. that have helped him over the years.

My question is, "is it worth it?" Because like in the case with Peter Clarke, Biljana Dimovska, Suzi Becvinovska they have all been snubbed by Tennis Australia and will never receive a wildcard anywhere in Australia again. The latter two were actually banned by the ITF for 2 years from competing in any ITF/WTA event.

I think Peter Clarke certainly is regretting his situation as it has most likely meant foregoing a chance to play in the main draw singles of a Grand Slam!

Surely the prizemoney and prestige from that would mean more than playing a relegation tie for Ireland!

They were banned from competing for 2 years! Suzi actually took a set from Seda Noorlander in her Fed Cup match losing 4-6 6-0 6-0.

The ban should be over or nearly over as the penalty was given to them in 2001. You never know, they might pop up in the Aussie Challengers!

I dont mean to sound too harsh about Petrovic.

I can understand he feels the allegiance to Serbia thats only natural but it shouldnt be as strong as his feelings towards Australia! If he's realised that he doesnt have the game to go top 300 and wants to experience Davis Cup then I understand his decision. Just as long as he is aware of what the consequences now are of doin this!

The reality is now that he will most likely be excluded from all Wildcards in Australia. If he did crack the top 250 obviously he would've been a strong candidate to receive one. Its a risk he takes, just hope he doesnt regret it and sulk/complain about it when nothings forthcoming from Tennis Australia.
