Re: 2014 Australian Summer

Barty 'only' gets QWC for Brisbane.

Nobody is safe when TA is in the house.

I wonder which other girl will get snubbed on a MDWC out of Rogowska, Gajdosova and Sanders.

Re: 2014 Australian Summer

I'm curious to see who gets the Sydney WC. Sam has chosen Hobart, so no big name Aussie.

I'd say Casey and maybe Gajdosova. Perhaps Sanders? Although I think she'd be better suited in Hobart, and likely she'll probably get one for her home tourney in Bris.

Re Dokic and her crowd pulling status. Sure, she is a fan favourite and people will go and watch her play on the day. But no one is going to buy a ticket to the Australian Open (OK, maybe 1 or 2 of you nutters) purely to see her play. Ticket sales will not be a factor in deciding whether or not she gets in. Her MD status is a little shaky if you ask me.

It seems that Barty, Gajdosova and Sanders are the logical choices to join Casey. I think the final Aussie WC is down to a 3 way race between Dokic, Rogowska and Arina.

Rajicic has a case, but IMO does not deserve one as I believe sub 250 players shouldn't be given discretionary wildcards into main draws. Nasty Rodionova is not worth mentioning as she will not be considered.

Ok just saw the ALTs for Sydney and Hobart

Sydney: Rogowska, Ar Rodionova, Gajdosova, Adamczak and Patterson

Hobart: Sanders, Rajicic, Peers, Moore, Holland and Wlodarczak

Im betting Jarka, Liv and Arina will get WC into Sydney. Itll be interesting though as Arina will still have a RUS next to her name

Re: 2014 Australian Summer

Liv might get another Sydney WC just out of having nobody else to give it to Jarka always loves playing Hobart I can't see her playing Sydney.

I think we might see Liv & Arina with Sydney WC's

I find it hard to believe they would give Arina an AO WC over Olivia, she's younger and higher ranked - depends how much they take the playoff in to consideration I guess.

Edit: Kev to the rescue

Re: 2014 Australian Summer

I'm surprised Jarka chose Sydney over Hobart.

Seriously thank god, if she didn't then we'd probably have Monique or Tammi as WCs

Sydney is always interesting for the allocation of w/c's, though atleast Arina, Liv or Jarka will benefit from a match against a top 50 player and we won't have a Holland-like incident. Though its disappointing our best players have scuttled off to Hobart and we are so under-represented here.

Re: 2014 Australian Summer

You know I kinda feel sorry for Viki Rajicic. If she had've burst on to the scene as an 18yo and won two ITF titles and beat four top 200 players and cracked the top 300 she would have a huge buzz around her and would be a strong contender for a wildcard, but the fact that she's been around for 4 years and this year managed to win two ITF titles, beat 4 top 200 players and finally crack the top 300 means that she'll be overlooked. A bit unfortunate imho.

Re: 2014 Australian Summer

^ Depends, having the 'buzz' around a player early is great in the short term, but has it helped the likes of Moore, Holland, Peers, I don't know.

You are right, players have been given w/c's for less than what Viki has achieved. I think she'd would've had a stronger case if those results weren't achieved locally. Though I thought that it wasn't a bad thing for her to dip her toe in the water by playing the Eastern European 10k's throughout the year, it wouldn't be an advantage when putting a hand up for a slam main draw w/c.

Slow and steady might win the race for gals like Viki, Tammi, Azra. Viki would really benefit from winning a round or two at the AO quallies, for which she is well capable of.

Re: 2014 Australian Summer

Well, we can cross Sacha Jones off the summer WC list. She is retiring.

Credit to kittyking for breaking the story in her thread.

I found this online, just posted a short while ago:

Great she is embarking on a very noble career path. But what a shame we're losing such a talent at just 23

^ She may be back eventually. Maybe wishful thinking, but her quote "im going to university next year' may mean Im just taking a year off.

Dellacqua gets Hobart wild card. I am tipping Dokic and Gajdosova for Sydney wc's.
