Samantha Stosur Thread

Well why not

23 bonus points just went down the drain this morning as Sam blew 4 match points against Stevenson This wouldve given the ranking a further boost, but whats done is done I guess! A little more experience and Im sure she would have closed it out. Hopefully next time she *will* close these types of matches out...hope it doesnt become a habit, like some of her Aussie colleagues (past and present) have been known to do

I think her next event is $50K Minnesotta and she is in the main draw...will be tough, but Im sure she's ready to go!

If she can come that close to beating the #24 ranked player now, imagine what she will be able to do with a bit of experience

She seems a bit more stronger and powerful than her colleagues, but it seems she'll have to get some consistency, judging by the times I've seen her.
However I hope this doesn't mean her flair will disappear. I was impressed in her match against Hantuchcova that she stepped up and went for it. Daniella didn't look impressed when Stosur smacked a couple of her 1st serves for winners.

There's more to life than just being happy.

Here is an excerpt from a TA article of Sam's match with Stevenson this week...

http://www.tennisaustralia.com.au/te...ebruary%2019_0

Qualifier Samantha Stosur held set points against No.4 seed Alexandra Stevenson in the women's event but lost the two hour 13 minute match 36 76(7) 76(8). "I'm happy that I pulled it out," said Stevenson. "I haven't been able to do that in my last couple of matches, so I just dug deep. Now I want to win the tournament."

"The tie-breaks were pretty tight," said Stevenson. "I was up in both of them but I let them slip away. I just held on and fought hard. Those two aces [on match point] were definitely key."

Despite the disappointment, Stosur was gracious in defeat. "I had the match points but I couldn't do anything about them," she said. "She was just too good. She came up with the aces when she needed them and she showed why she's a top player."
Stevenson now goes on to play Japan's Saori Obata in the second round after she defeated lucky loser Vanessa Web in straight sets.

lol, I think they mean match points not set points

any news on where and when sam will play next? she entered into miamia but she is way off the qualiy list atm. i don't think she'll get in there unless she gets a wildcard and i doubt she'll be given one. so does anyone know where she is going to play?

unfortunately sam lost 6-3 6-3 to shenay perry.

perry is a good young player but i'm pretty shocked at the result mainly because of sam's recent progress. she had a reall good chance at winning st. paul.

Very disappointing

But Sam is not yet the player where a win is guaranteed...sure she can mix it with some top players, but losses like this will still happen. Playing at a reasonably high level consistently is still a fair way off, but Im confident it's only a minor blip and she'll bounce back soon

Sam's 19 birthday today! Happy birthday kiddo!

Hope she can start stringing some wins together on the tough US challenger circuit...dont think she'll get a game at Fed Cup, unless Evonne puts her in a 'dead' rubber, even that's a great experience.

Add me to the list of those who hope she can start playing confidently and winning those challengers matches. She really needs to get that ranking rising asap.

I had confirmation yesterday that Sarah Stone and Samantha Stosur are both dykes and were an 'item' so to speak. Well they were at least until recently, not sure whats happened the last month or so!

Stosur really should be playing only WTA qualifying events now, I think she is passed Challenger stage, she has the talent to beat top 50 players, she has shown us that with wins over Martinez, Webb, and nearly Stevenson this year!

Problem is if she is unable to win matches in Challenger events it is unlikely that she will have the confidence to win WTA Qualifying matches. Having the talent and being able to use it are two different things. Let's hope that Sam can get her act together and string some good results together real soon.

some players find it easaier playing the top players than lower ranked players. iroda has the same problem. it takes time to get things right. but she doesn't seem to be doing much on the challenger level.

i hope she isn't just one of those players that does well in the australian part of the season and does nothing the rest of the year.

Simon...first she has to *win* some challenger matches to be past that level (and by challengers I dont mean the weak Aussie ones) She should be beating the Vierin's of the tour not crashing to them in straight sets. Once those glitches are sorted out *then* she should try WTA qualifiers. I think she needs to cut her teeth in international challenger events first...

As for the Sarah thing...quelle surprise there
