That's good to hear. Are they going to increase the size as well or just leave it at 16? In my opinion they should have a 24 player draw and give the seeds a bye, the seeds are going to be the tired ones and the lower ranked players are going to be the ones wanting extra matches.

#9 ·
16 Draw for this year...Im also a fan of the knockout format....while the rr matches are good for the lower ranked players, we need our players in the right mindset, lose and your out, there is no second chance on the itf/wta tour each week...you have to bring your game to every match... if more of these girls want extra match practice they can easily play the platinum amt held straight after the playoffs...

good work ozfan, the summer entries thread was pretty handy for the start of this year :)

don't forget about the annual Dokic comeback, i reckon she might get a sneaky wildcard ahead of Rodionova. my other picks would be Barty, Rogowska (if she needs one), Jones and Gajdosova.

Should be some pretty interesting competition for WC's next year. Lots of unknowns to consider such as whether or not Liv will get DE, a potential Dokic reapearance, slumping players such as Rodi and Jarka making their comebacks. Jones and Barty are the only sure things IMO.

I wonder if TA will force all the players to play the playoff? Is there a hard and fast rule about this? Can't really see Jarka and Rodi being too keen to play it.

even if Dokic doesn't deserve one, she will still be given one because she's good for drawing crowds and publicity. i would much rather watch a Dokic match with the aussie fanatics in the crowd than a Rodionova bitch fest (no offence to Rodi, i sometimes enjoy the bitch fests :))

Agreed that she should (and will) get a qualy WC anyway. Maybe she wants to play for the trophy as some good names have won this before.

I think she's done well this year, but it hasn't been a remarkable year by any stretch. She's a perennial QF type of player at these Oz challengers. If she wants to be included in the mix of up and comers, she needs to step up, beat better players and start going deeper.

Thanks, yep there's a 2 stage process. :) (Though some already know status). The format seems different this year. But I guess it doesn't really matter too much as other than a few in the top 150 or so, the reality is there's not many at present that could perform that well at Grand Slam level or in the lead in internationals. It has become more so a national derby of aspiration.
