At Arina's interview

Adrian: "Are you going to watch your sister now?"

Arina: "Nah, screw that."

I love Arina. So many of the Australian players (like the US) have been so carefully managed and coached to give cliched, scripted responses to questions to avoid offending anyone. With Arina coming through the Russian system, she's much more free with her answers.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events

I went out there today but got there late, kinda glad as I would of been pissed of with Mon losing to agkul so easily...

Arina started well and did a good job of hitting to the parra backhand and then hard low and flat into the forehand drawing the error....mental lapse in the second and then recovered from being a break down in the third...

As for her sister, I took a mate with me as they needed a laugh, and that's what they got. While i agree with her there were some terrible line calls against her.... if she wants to get back into the top 100 she needs to snap the **** out of it!! Too often she was caught in cross court forehand rallies and eventually her shots would get short that Savinykh would pounce... Rodi needed to throw in a few more slices and attack the net, when she did come forward she won almost every point... Backhand worked well but she was always hitting forehands... Carlos Ramos has had better days, but he did manage to dish out a warning for verbal abuse, time wasting and then docked a point (which cost her the game) at 2-3 or 2-4 in the final set for hindrance. After a brutal rally rodi rolled a short sharp backhand cross court and then stupidly yelled come on as Valleria was about to hit it, under 10s stuff really... Louise Plemming was there taking notes, Cara Black also endured the match. Arina came mid way through the third set...

Tammi wasn't far off, I really hope she can get her act together this year and make a push up the rankings and be consistent!!

Good luck to the West Aussies in 2013!:
Casey Dellacqua Jessica Moore Bojana Bobusic Storm Sanders
as well as Jelena Dokic Sam Stosur Sally Peers Ash Barty Olivia Rogowska Monique Adamczak Sacha Jones Rodionova Sisters Tammi Patterson Vicky Rajicic Azra Hadzic Alison Bai

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events

As for the draws, who did our girls piss off so badly to get these draws...

I really am pissed off for Bojana, aga is in good form, I hope boj can put in a good effort...

Sacha and Jarmila our only chances for wins IMO, if anyone else does, well it will be a pleasant suprise, Sam included...

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events

Good win for Long there, Miyazaka has wins over other higher ranked Aussie's like Hives and Wagland.

Long, Rischbieth, Hopper, Boyanov and Inglis join direct entrant Cabrera, Hives, Wagland, Perez, Ruhrig and Bains as well as wildcards Hon, Tjandramulia, Andrinopoulos, Birrell, Woolcock, Stojic, Harris and Tomic (I think) in the main draw. That should brings the number to 20 in the main draw, so a good opportunity for these girls in a weaker draw than usual.

Thanks for the match report.

I dont think the draw is that bad. If it wasnt for the poor form of Liv, Casey and Sam (and if Liv and Casey were bringinig 2012 form into the Open) we'd be counting three wins atleast.

But for those three gals any draw looks difficult, but they just need to pull their finger out.

Casey is actually in a good section. If she was to beat Keys, then she could be up against the out-of-form Paszek. Casey had played poorly for the last 6 months apart from a brief patch of form around the US, needs to play smarter and grind points a bit, as opposed to bashing the ball about mindlessly. Ditto for Liv.

Jarka can actually play loose against Yanina, unlike 2 years ago when she was in full flight having won Hobart and put alot of pressure on herself. Ditto for 2012, when she had to recover from her Hopman Cup debacle. I think she's a bit circumspect now, and more importantly seems more mature now.

Bojana - oh well, shit happens. She'll get to experience Hisense Arena or possibly Rod Laver.

Sacha - she's played 2 matches since October..... is that enough

Hopefully Cibulkova is traumatised by her double bagel by Aga and loses the plot. It won't happen and really Im glad Ash is facing tough competition during this stage in her career. Getting a win over some scrub will inflate expectation, and at this stage she still has alot of work to do to be competitive on the tour. Grabbing a set, or even a close set against Domi will be a good achievement for Ash.

What do we say about Sam. The draw is OK if she can get through the 1st and 2nd rounds. Li Na in the 4th is the best we could ask for. But.... its more complicated than this. Lets wish for 35 degree days, play her in Laver cauldron and lets hope her fitness wins out. Don't put her on night please... keep that for Tomic or better still Lleyton so Todd, Bruce and Pat rafter can have their annual wankfest.

There's more to life than just being happy.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events

Is Arina officially an Aussie now?
If she is shouldn't her thread get moved into this forum?

Top 10: Ashleigh Barty, Caroline Garcia, Jamie Hampton, Jelena Jankovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Lucie Safarova, Maria Sharapova, Karolina Sprem, Sam Stosur, Jarmila Wolfe.

All time favourite: Anna Chakvetadze

She's not an Aussie citizen so can only play as an Aussie in ITF events, not WTA events.
