Left thigh injury for Jarka. Rodionova was scheduled to play Hobart qualies but she withdrew because of Auckland doubles final on Saturday ( unless she has the last main draw WC ? I doubt it but we never know...)

^ I think it's safe to say Bobusic has the last Hobart WC. She would be in qualies otherwise.

Happy to see Sacha back. I hope she's fit enough to play and win a few matches.

Yes, I assume the same but without an official confirmation I was just being a little cautious.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events

Weird that they gave bengson a WC over Patterson, I hope that Tammi Isn't overlooked for a QWC for AO she deserves it after her SF at the playoff.

Good to see Sacha back, hopefully she can string a few wins together, not sure what her WC status is for AO at the moment.

Samantha Stosur, Daniela Hantuchova, Lucie Safarova

Kim Birrell, Sabine Lisicki, Abbie Myers, Priscilla Hon

Kristina Mladenovic, Heather Watson, Ana Konjuh, Zoe Hives

^ Yes but she doesn't have WC next to her name so I assume she got in directly at the last minute after all the WC's had been awarded. Also what is the go with a doubles specialist and a random Chinese girl getting WC's?

Samantha Stosur, Daniela Hantuchova, Lucie Safarova

But she doesn't really deserve it based on her year and failure to progress. But yes she played well at the play off There are a few people putting their hand up for a qualy WC, and it will be interesting to see if there is room for Tammi.

Peers, Rajicic and Moore are higher ranked than Karo and Tammi. Why did those 3 need a WC and the latter two got in direct? OK, stupid question on my part, I'm assuming they got in as alternates..

I'm just happy a local Tassie 12 year old didn't get a WC this year.

I believe that random Chinese girl has a WC into to the AO (Asian WC), so makes sense to give her some match practice

Yup the last in is Karolina #588. I think it is better than to have a bunch of Bye

Yes, I think it is safe to assume they just filled the draw up with who was left. W/c's were probably announced before withdrawals were made and then in the end it probably didn't matter.

There was probably room for the 12 y/o Tassie girl in the end......they had to drag Husarova into play as a last resort.

There's more to life than just being happy.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events

I'd say that a couple of last minute withdrawals included Nastya Rodionova who is caught up in Auckland doubles and Lesia Tsurenko who has made the Brisbane SF (as a LL!!). So yeah, the Hobart QDraw would have depleted pretty fast.

Can't wait to see how the girls go today. So many playing! Not that I'm expecting much, but it'll still be fun

Tammi up 2-1 on serve and hasn't lost a point on serve yet.
Mon saved 3 BPs and is trying to hold for 2-1
Azra's at 1-1
Sally hasn't won a point yet and is down 0-2.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events

I find it perversely entertaining to see our players get flogged at this time of year. I mean I do wish them the best but reality sets in and I know most will get flogged. My little personal heirarchy of WTA embarrassment goes something like this:

Extreme level embarrassment: bageled in a set and won less than 10 points and/or double-bageled
Very High level embarrassment: bageled in a set
High level embarrassment: 1st and 2nd serves won is below 50% for both and/or averages more the one DF per game
Medium level embarrassment: beaten in less than an hour
Low level embarrassment: choked away a healthy lead
Satisfactory: no bagels or breadsticks and stayed on court longer than an hour.

Sally's on the board now so we're safe from the very high/extreme levels of embarrassment

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events

Okay, my low expectations are working well so far. Sally's just got it back on serve at 3-4 and Tammi won the first set 6-2!
