Re: Naiktha Bains

Still can't get over how quick her accent changed

Anyway, good results. Nice to see her living up to her potential. Shame I won't get to see her play for a while, really interested in seeing a full match of hers.

Re: Naiktha Bains

Accents seem to change quicker when you're younger. If she was 20 years older, it probably wouldn't change at all. I think it just has to do with how long you have the accent for.

F: (10)Naiktha Bains (AUS) df. (2)Danielle Wagland (AUS) 6-4 6-2

Three titles in a row and a 17 match winning streak! She'll now play two ITFs in Asia I believe. Let's hope she can keep winning.

Re: Naiktha Bains

Biggest test of her career, thus far, when she faces Sabina Sharipova (1) in Korea GB1 next round.

Re: Naiktha Bains

Should be a good test, it'll show where she is at against the really good juniors and top 500 players. She's only 13 still, so not expecting a win, just to keep it close.

^^
She did keep it close!

She lost in 3 - fab effort against someone as good as Sharipova.

Re: Naiktha Bains

How old is Sharipova? Junior rank? I've heard of her before and she's supposed to be real good.

Great effort from Naiktha.

Re: Naiktha Bains

Seogwipo Asian/Oceania Closed International Junior Tennis Championships 2011, GB1, Jeju-Do, Korea

1R: Naiktha Bains (AUS) df. Seul Lee (KOR) 6-3 6-1
2R: (1)Sabina Sharipova (UZB) df. Naiktha Bains (AUS) 6-2 6-7(5) 6-0

Great effort from Naiktha to take a set off the top seed! I thought she would only win 3-4 games. Sharipova is supposed to be pretty good. She's #23 on junior ITF rankings and #441 in WTA rankings. She won a WTA maindraw match in Tashkent a few months ago and took six games off Pervak. She's 17 and Naiktha is still only 13 so the fact that Naiktha could challenge her is a great achievement. I think she could've gone very deep in the tournament if she had a better draw. This also ends Naiktha's run of 18 wins in a row.

She's really establishing herself as one of the best junior prospects. In fact according to the junior ITF rankings she's the best 13 year old in the world.

Next up she has another Asian junior ITF. Hopefully she has a better draw in that one.

By the way she thanked us for her support after winning Gosford on twitter.

Re: Naiktha Bains

very good effort against Sharipova!

does Naiktha have a chance of a QWC at the aussie open? she will be 14 by then, same as Olivia Lukeszewicz when she first played quallies. i'd hate if she got beaten easily and lost confidence though.

Re: Naiktha Bains

Actually 14 year olds are not allowed to play professional Grand Slams. You have to be at least 15. I do think maybe a MWC for the Australian Open juniors is possible but we'll see, she at least deserves one for qualifying.

Re: Naiktha Bains

For AO girls? She should get a main draw wildcard for sure. Although I guess it depends on some of the girls who have already established a good senior ranking, Rajcic, Hadzic, Sanders. I'd be surprised if Rajcic, Hadzic would want to play though.
