In 2009, she came from nowhere (US College tennis I think) to qualify and reach the finals of Darwin $25K and went on to have a good Aussie challenger season and ended the year in the top 500 - a nice surprise for us to have a new prospect on the scene.
California isn't nowhere in NCAA Was a starter for California Bears, which was NCAA runner up 2 years in a row; Boj herself had a monster Fall season in her senior year, was ranked pretty high, and in the individual tourney almost upset Florida's then #1 Marrit Boonstra. That was in 2009.
Forgot to tune in and just saw a couple of final pts against Kerber Couldn't recognize her at a glance
Expected result but sounds like Bojana put in a half decent showing considering it's her 1st ever GS (main draw or qualifying) and only her 3rd tour level tournament. Sounds like she did better than Izzy who is ranked higher and has more experience at this level. Hopefully Boj continues her rise this year!
And @fantic, I take your point but NCAA doesn't really rate a mention in Australia, so from our perspective, she really did seem to come from "nowhere". Glad she did though!
