Re: Ashleigh Barty

Ashleigh comitted to 4 ITF Junior tournaments this month: G1 in Thailand, Malaysia and Philippines and G2 in Japan. However the last tournament is on the same week as 25k in Ashleigh's hometown Ipswich so I think she will play there.

Re: Ashleigh Barty

Just an update on Ashleigh's results so far this week.

2011 17th Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup - Kuching, Malaysia
G1, Girls Singles, Main Draw of 64
Representing Australia, Ashleigh Barty, unseeded

R1: defeated Kimberley Ann SURIN (CAN) 4-6 6-2 6-4
R2: defeated Anett KONTAVEIT (EST) (8) 6-3 6-3
R3: defeated Sabina SHARIPOVA (UZB) (9) 6-4 7-5
QF: defeated Risa OZAKI (JPN) (13) 6-0 6-1
SF: defeated Miyu KATO (JPN) (4) 6-0 6-2
F: versus Carol ZHAO (CAN)

G1, Girls Doubles, Main Draw of 32
Representing Australia, Ashleigh Barty & Abbie Myers, unseeded

R1: defeated Hibino/Ozaki (JPN/JPN) 7-6(1) 6-1
R2: defeated Jang/Lee (KOR/KOR) (2) 6-2 7-5
QF: defeated Haas/Zhao (AUT/CAN) (5) 6-4 6-2
SF: defeated Douglas-Miron/Surin (CAN/CAN) 6-1 6-2
F: defeated Danilina//Lysa (KAZ/UKR) 7-5 6-2

Awesome week so far, let's hope she can take the singles as well!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the last Aussie girl to win a G1 was Evie Dominikovic when she beat Jelena Dokic 7-6 6-0 in the final of the Canadian Open Juniors in 1998 - yes in the last millennium!!

Already with her results this week, Barty's junior ranking will rise from 112 to around 61. A win would see her jump to around No.50.

Keep in mind Dokic ended 1998 ranked No.341 for women and No.1 for juniors. I'm very interested to see how Barty stacks up.

Re: Ashleigh Barty

Good luck in the final!
After that she plays another G1 in Manila (Philippines) and then two 25k tournaments in Ipswich and Bundaberg. Hopefully it's a good preparation before a clay season in Europe.

Re: Ashleigh Barty

Ashleigh BARTY (AUS) defeated Carol ZHAO (CHN) 6-3 7-5

Her first G1 title in her second G1 event!!

Junior ranking will hit about 50 and she's already done enough to virtually guarantee herself a spot in French and Wimbledon Juniors - well done!

Re: Ashleigh Barty

Great week! She is definitely prooving to be one of the best 14 year olds in the world. I'd definitely say top 3 at this stage.

^^
Who else would you put in that category?

I'd go so far to say she is the best 1996 girl in the world. Her senior results already have been amazing, and consistent

If she plays a reasonable juniors schedule this year (Philippines G1, Italian lead in G1, Italian Juniors GA, Astrid Bowl G1, French Juniors G1, Roehampton G1, Wimbledon GA, Oceania Closed GB2, Canadian G1, US Juniors GA) I reckon she can finish juniors at least top 20, but I'd hope for top 10

I put her in the same catergory as Indy De Vroome and Christina Makarova, obviously she may be better than both but it is hard to tell at this stage. Probably above De Vroome but slightly below Makarova.

I don't know how Ashley plays, but depending on her style of play, I'd say she probably is better than Makarova, who is purely a defensive player. Although there is time for all of these players to mature and develop their game more. I would say that Gabbie Andrews is USA's best 1996 girl... she is only a week away from being a 1997 girl and has had amazing results. She dominates USTA 18s tournaments (which I imagine she'll move away from soon) and reached the GA Orange Bowl quarterfinals this fall. I expect her to really assert herself with Barty, De Vroome, Haas, and Makarova as a top 1996 girl soon.

I am very eager to see Ashleigh play... her results are so exciting!

Re: Ashleigh Barty

^^
She tweeted that she rolled it. She pulled out of the doubles and is on her way home. Been icing it etc.

Hopefully she isn't seriously injured and she can get back on court soon, however I doubt she will play Ipswich.
