Things are definitely much better, for a long time we struggled to get two into the top 100. Now we have 5, its pretty cool. I do worry about depth though, also the age of our girls...but we always want more..right?

New Zealands gone the other way

Had a couple of top 200 players, a couple more in the top 300..... just look at the latest rankings

... mind you in 2001 we were even worse

Thank you for everything Mercedes, now please be nice to Socrates for me, perhaps fetch him a bird or two. We love you, always.

Much healthier representaion. 300-500 was looking quite slim a couple years ago, but now it's quite healthy. A lot of the younger girls have grown up now and have more experience under their belt. The 90-92 girls were always a strong bunch, so it was a matter of time before they helped increase our stocks.

Nice job putting this list together.

No reason why Rodionova, Groth and Dokic can't all make it to the top 50 and Ferguson the top 100. If Dellacqua can overcome her injury struggles, I'm sure she'll make it back up there too. My only fear is that while many of the young girls are talented (Peers, Rogowska, Moore, Mirkovic, Wejnert, Holland), there aren't really any standouts who look set to become world beaters.

Daniela Hantuchova.

Casey Dellacqua, Jelena Jankovic, Anna-Lena Groenefeld,
Jelena Dokic, Mirjana Lucic, Sara Tomic, Sloane Stephens
Melanie Oudin, Kaia Kanepi, Alison Riske

Re: Top 20 Aussies - now and 2 years ago

Thanks for compiling the list!
Groth should continue to improve, Dokic as well
Of our younger girls...
I hope our younger girls can start to make a climb.
Kinda strange... I want Wejnert to lose AIS funding to join the Hopper team in Turkey.
If they can make Groth skinny/a competitive top 70 and improving player, I hope they can improve Wejnert's game too.
Of course I only bring Hopper up as Mon is BFF's with Jade.
The Holland hype is dead, not sure why it was there in the first place...
Rajicic is still only 16

How is Sara Tomic going?
Daddy Tomic has probably pumped her up too much (saying better than her brother at similar age)
But hopefully she might be our next rising junior in 4-5 years lol

Nope you need to take out that word - she will improve. She has ALOT of class, absolutely top 30 material wouldnt be surprised if she goes a bit higher.

Re: Top 20 Aussies - now and 2 years ago

Yeah she has the talent...
But I thought Alicia had the ability to come back and be top 50 and look how that is turning out lol...
So I don't want to make any more bold statements lol

Yeah - the 2008 rankings show us having only 10 players in the Top 500. This week we have 21 - Daniela Scivetti is our #21 and ranked #493 in the world AND on the way up.
