Re: Sally Peers

Oh and she's got Aleks Wozniak in the main draw. If she can somehow spring the upset here, it's Kim in round 2.

Re: Sally Peers

I never realised her mum was Elizabeth Little (former Australian Junior champ who also played US Open and Wimbledon).

Re: Sally Peers

Never heard of Elizabeth Little before, but it's good to see Sally follow in mum's footsteps

Re: Sally Peers

Speechless, she's a fighter no doubt. If she could win a round its serious points for her! Though she doesn't to be in that great of shape, her fitness must be pretty good to come through in such a long encounter.

Win to Peers completes family double

August 30, 2010

AUSTRALIAN teenager Sally Peers has created history at the US Open, achieving a feat not even the Williams family can boast of.
In reaching the main draw of a grand slam for the first time with a spirited 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-4 final-round qualifying win over Japanese baseline slugger Junri Namigata on Saturday, Peers followed in the footsteps of her mother, then known as Elizabeth Little, who twice contested the women's singles at the Open almost three decades ago.
In almost a century of the US championships, there have been all sorts of family double acts - including sister-brother finalists, husband and wife mixed-doubles champions and father-son contestants.

But officials from the ITF - world tennis's governing body - and the Women's Tennis Association said they could not recall another mother-daughter combination to have reached the US Open.
Peers' mother contested the singles in 1980 and 1981. She also played at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, teaming with compatriot Kerryn Pratt to make the 1979 Australian Open doubles semi-finals.
Sally Peers will play Canadian Aleksandra Wozniack in the first round at Flushing Meadows tomorrow (Melbourne time).

Sally's mum played with Kerryn Pratt

Who would expect officials to know anything about history?

Guess 1904 US Champ May Sutton-Bundy (first American to win Wimbledon) and four-time US Semi-Finalist Dodo Bundy-Cheney (first American to win Australian) are too far back...

But they shouldn't have too many excuses for forgetting about Gladys Heldman who virtually founded women's pro-tennis and top-tenner daughter Julie Heldman..

Re: Sally Peers

Exactly Gee Tee

Know anything else about Elizabeth Gee Tee? Style of game, years on the tour, decent tour results?
