She's having quite a good year, had some good wins and is currently in the QF of Phuket 25k

Nice thread bump

Alison looks a lot leaner in this pic than I remember when I saw her play in Darwin in 2011.

Re: Alison Bai

Bad luck. Seems one of the few recently that is comfortable playing the challengers in Asia and getting some decent results. Has little to defend in the later part of the year if she plays the Aussie 25k's, so could press well into the 300's.

There's more to life than just being happy.

Re: Alison Bai

Bump! Nice effort by Alison to reach two consecutive $15K quarter-finals in Cairns and Toowoomba.

She just keeps on plugging away with modest results. Kinda admirable really...

Re: Alison Bai

Just read the first post of this thread, and shocked to see she beat Ayumi Morita at the AO juniors in 07. I forgot about that. Always funny to see how some of our journey women had wins over current good players in the junior days.

Look, she was never going to do much, but I'm glad she's still out there having a go as most of the girls from her generation have fallen by the wayside. Her form has always ebbed and flowed, but looks like she's getting back to some good form after a mid season slump. Not sure how much longer she'll keep playing, but she clearly loves the sport so I hope she sticks around for a while

Re: Alison Bai

^I only ever saw her play once and it was a miserable double bagel to Isabella Holland in a $25K in Darwin Hard to imagine that now! Based on that, I wouldn't have thought she'd still be plugging away three years later, so kudos to her

Re: Alison Bai

Funny you should mention Doi, coz on that first page I learnt that Alison almost beat her too in 2007

I saw Alison play quite a few times in 07-08, both at December Showdown events and AO qualies. Never thought she had the best game of her generation, but she showed enough pluck and determination to become my favourite from that group. Have followed her closely ever since

Re: Alison Bai

Nice to see Alison get some press

Originally published in Canberra Times, so it's a local piece, but has migrated on to other Fairfax publications (found it in The Age online today)

Btw, that journo is wrong - it was a normal round robin match when she played Alicia in 2010, not a SF.

Top 10: Ashleigh Barty, Caroline Garcia, Jamie Hampton, Jelena Jankovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Lucie Safarova, Maria Sharapova, Karolina Sprem, Sam Stosur, Jarmila Wolfe.

All time favourite: Anna Chakvetadze
