Re: Jessica Moore

A good effort by Jess this week. Beat a top 350 ranked player in qualies and took out a $50K doubles title. Back into the top 200 in doubles.

Good signs that her comeback will lead somewhere

Re: Jessica Moore

Jess Moore has just won a $10K tournament in Belgium. She was unseeded and lost only one set in the tournament

It's only her 4th ever ITF title.

Well done Jess. Would be great if she could back it up again this week.

Re: Jessica Moore

Melbourne Age has an article about Jess, as well as Bojana and Sasha. Scroll down to the end of the article:

There's more to life than just being happy.

Re: Jessica Moore

Interesting article. Reinforces the fact that tennis athletes even at this level in Australia cannot make ends meet trying to compete and build their ranking and expertise. As a grand slam nation that rake sin millions for the AO, more funds could be allocated to tennis athletes showing promise. And put the Pro Tours in the capital cities which are easier for all to get to, (ie fly in and out without another 7-9 hour commute journey), with more competitive accommodation options rather than limited facilities in the regions where the price gets driven up by the event. This would make it more economical or viable to compete in tennis and limit the amount of talent that gives the sport up. Tennis athletes in Asian countries (eg Japan, Korea) can also get sponsorships to help fund their costs but this is non existent in Australia.

Re: Jessica Moore

I think the article sums up the situation these players find themselves in. It's also one of the reasons it peeves me so greatly that when it comes to AO WCs they will randomly throw them the way of some teen wunderkid who is unlikely to play much for the rest of the year when some of these girls ranked in the 200s could use the money to expand their travels and hopefully win a few matches and get their rankings up.
