Re: Casey in Dubai

Casey, if your shoulder is giving you this much trouble, you might as well go back for another surgery. This is sad.

Re: Casey in Dubai

I think we'll see a large rankings slide over the next few months. She has alot of points to defend, Indian Wells, French and Wimbledon. Its looking as if she may end up needing the wildcard to get into the French, shes almost out of the top 100. Maybe she needs a better coach, or needs a long period of time off and start again, or yeah... more surgery.

Re: Casey in Dubai

I really hope that the shoulder isn't giving her too much grief.
That said, this was a really disappointing loss and she is in danger of missing the cut off for Roland Garros (which would be annoying because that would mean one of the juniors wouldn't get a wildcard).

She should have gone to the States and played Memphis IMO

Re: Casey in Dubai

I've been meaning to post this, read this in the paper a few days ago

Quote:
Casey Dellacqua digs in to shoulder pain

February 10, 2009 12:00am
CASEY Dellacqua has avoided shoulder surgery - for now - and next week will contest the rich Dubai Championships.

Dellacqua, ranked 88th in the world, returned to Melbourne at the weekend in search of more treatment after again experiencing soreness in her left shoulder.

A Tennis Australia official said Dellacqua intended to remain on tour despite chronic soreness in her serving arm.

Dellacqua has been troubled by shoulder pain since the middle of last season.

She has remodelled her service action to protect her shoulder. But her struggles throughout the Australian summer were directly attributable to continued soreness.

"I'm going to try an injection first and then see how that goes and see if that reduces any of my pain," she said after savouring Australia's Fed Cup victory in Perth.

"Then I'll look at a few other options, but I'm going to try everything I can before surgery."

It's obvious not working whatever she is trying to protect the shoulder. I wonder how many of these 6-1, 6-1 losses it might take

Re: Casey in Dubai

Dellacqua to undergo shoulder surgeryFebruary 20, 2009 - 11:44AM
Australia's No.2 ranked woman Casey Dellacqua will undergo shoulder surgery on Monday and is unlikely to return to competitive tennis until mid-2009.
Dellacqua, 24, has battled chronic shoulder pain since Wimbledon last year, forcing her to remodel her service action.
The injury contributed to her opening-round loss to Daniela Hantuchova at last month's Australian Open and the problems continued in Dubai this week.
The left-hander from WA will travel to Melbourne for a shoulder arthroscopy next week by leading surgeon Greg Hoy.
"I wanted to try everything I could before I underwent surgery," Dellacqua said.
"I have had significant pain in my shoulder since midway through last year and I have lost a lot of the power in my arm as a result.
"I am obviously disappointed that the different treatment options I have tried in an effort to avoid surgery over the last six months have not worked but the most important thing now is to rectify the problem and to be pain free."
Dellacqua is currently ranked No.81 in the world.
The only other Australia women in the top 100 are Samantha Stosur (42) and Jelena Dokic (84).
The injury will rule Dellacqua out of the Fed Cup clash against Switzerland in April and the French Open.
Her Wimbledon campaign is also in doubt.

Should have done it earlier. At least she got to play Aussie circuit again
All the best for a speedy recovery

I guess US Open wildcard will be hers.

Re: Casey in Dubai

Well it was expected news I guess. Hopefully this surgery goes alright for her, because some players can't get back to their best after they have had surgery. Hopefully that won't be the case for her.

All the best Casey

Re: Casey in Dubai

Right decision but it just sucks.
Just when Aussie womens tennis seems to be going in the right direction, we're about to lose one of our top players for half a year which will see her ranking dramatically drop. It sucks. Hope she is back for Surbiton or something and then onto Wimbledon but i doubt it.
