Re: Casey's Australian Adventure

Lisicki is pretty much just a hit and miss player so Casey couldn't really do much. Lucky to get the first set because Lisicki really didn't take her chances at all (which she had plenty). They both started off really well though and were hitting it EXTREMELY hard, some great winners from Casey. Her serve wasn't bad but Lisicki just stepped up and pounded them, she didn't get many first serves either.

Second set she kind of lost concentration and was never really in it. She was going for the winner before setting up the point and missed some easy shots. Lisicki played solidly, hit something like 4 aces in a row in the first game of the second set I think (2 on 2nd serve).

3rd set Casey picked it up and played pretty well. Lisicki dropped her standard. Some good winners again from Casey and her backhand was the much more solid shot IMO. She lost concentration again and couldn't serve it out, Lisicki started getting her shots in again and Casey just started playing defensively (not going to work) and she won like 1 point in the last 3 games.

Re: Casey's Australian Adventure

i saw the whole match...

Casey seemed a little flat right from the start - but she still played quite well. the serve was really average but in saying that, Lisicki, who i had never seen play before, returned REALLY WELL, thing ivanovic style moving to her big forehand and smacking balls away off caseys serve, stepping right in on second serve, so that of course put more pressure on the serve unfortunately.

Lisicki played a great match first of all, big ground strokes, huge serve! surprisingly good movement and a positive attitude, even when she missed.

Casey played okay, fairly consistently = but i would like for her to be more agressive and take some chances especially against such an agressive opponent. she was up 4 2 and 5 3 in the third so obviously she is in good form, just needs a few more matches under her belt.

oh i only saw the first 4 games of mixed but she was playing very very well and lleyton was really encouraging her

Re: Casey's Australian Adventure

Dokic and Stosur impressed me more but i still think Casey can do well this month if she gets some more confidence off the serve

Re: Casey's Australian Adventure

Thanks guys. It doesn't sound too bad for Casey - and she was in a winning position.
Good news they've got the first set of the mixed - after practically no one holding serve!!

Re: Casey's Australian Adventure

I thought Casey looked a bit overweight; not as toned as this time last year. Anyone else think this??

Lost! 7-6 3-6 (4-10)
Toughh ask tomorrow for Casey vs. Cibulkova. Hewitt should handle Hrbaty, so might go down to the mixed again.

At least they both got through the tie in one piece. Hopman Cup has been an injury jinx for our teams in the 21st Century.

Re: Casey's Australian Adventure

i agree - but maybe it was just the tv angle/target clothes? she can beat any of these girls in her group but im not expecting too much i have to remind myself she has been off tour for a few months with the shoulder so it will take her some time to build form.

damn it Australia might be cursed in Perth = we should have dominated the mixed what happened

i must say, Lisicki played exceptionally well today for first matches of the season, Hewitt couldnt even attack her serves
