Mvp 2017

Thought this could be a fun idea, giving a "Brownlow" style of 3-2-1 points for each week of the year to see who could be the MVP in Women's Aussie tennis this year This can include Quallies, Main Draw & Doubles Results!

Points will be given until the end of WTA season (Week of Oct 31, Zhuzai).

Feel free to join - and I can update all the scores in Post 2

Re: Mvp 2017

WEEK 1 - Brisbane, Shenzhen, Auckland, Hopman Cup

3 points - Destanee Aiava
Tough call, but have to go with Des this week, coming through Quallies with barely losing games was just . To then follow that up by defeating a very experienced player in Mattek-Sands. To top it off was a very solid performance against a top 10 veteran in Kuznetsova. A truly awesome start to the year.

2 points - Ashleigh Barty
In most weeks she would have got the nod! Great first up win over Krunic, then taking the World #1 to 3 tough sets. Hope we can see more of this form all year.

1 point - Arina Rodionova
Three solid wins in Auckland to qualify (then deservedly given the last WC to Melbourne). Wasn't hopeless against Lepchenko either.

Honourable mention: Cabrera, I'm sure she will feature in this a lot of this weeks this year

Isn't this a procession for samson unless you do a newk medal style of avoiding the best two players and give it to highest ranked ass kisser

Re: Mvp 2017

Week 2 - Sydney, Hobart

3 points - Lizette Cabrera
In her WTA MD debut - she defeated a seed and top 40 player Misaki Doi in 3 sets! Although her 2nd Round wasn't so great, she definitely deserves the 3 points this week.

2 points - Arina Rodionova
Another 2 points here for Arina. 2 great wins in Sydney Qualifying against Top 100 opponents, before losing in a tough match against eventual QFist Duan. Got a LL spot, and didn't disgrace herself against Konta. Also made the QF in doubles before losing to top seeds.

1 point - Daria Gavrilova
A solid enough 1r win against Vekic (which was expected), bit of a disappointing scoreline against Konta in R16. Also had a win in doubles before withdrawing in QF.

Honourable Mentions: Ellen Perez, Olivia Rogowska, Ashleigh Barty who all had wins in Quallies.

Re: Mvp 2017

As long as I don't have to do this every week, sure.

3 points - Lizette Cabrera - awesome first WTA MD win, massive fight at the end of the third.

2 points - Arina Rodionova - Good run in singles to the QFR in Sydney, building upon last week's form, and respectable LL showing against Konta. Did ok in doubles as well.

1 point - Ashleigh Barty - did well to fight through two 3 setters in Q and prove she was willing to work for a MD spot. Well, at least until she W/Od instantly after winning her QR2. But whatever.

Re: Mvp 2017

Week 3 & 4 - Australian Open

3 points - Ashleigh Barty
Tough choice between Daria & Ash. But I'll lean with Ash, she has 2 nice straight set wins in the Main Draw before going down in a tough match against Barthel. The QF in Doubles with Casey gets her over the line here.

2 points - Daria Gavrilova
Defended 4R points and defeated a higher seed in the #12 Bacsinszky. Hopefully this is a kick start to a great year ahead.

1 point - Casey Dellacqua
Really good to see Casey back in action, and making Slam QF's again in doubles. Also won a round in XD. Will be interesting to see if she travels now.

Honourable mentions: Jaimee Fourlis, had a win in the main draw, and didn't disgrace herself against Kuznetsova.

Next week is St Petersburg (Gavrilova), Taipei (Cabrera) and plenty of Aussies in Tasmania.

Re: Mvp 2017

3 - Gavrilova

2 - Barty

1 - Fourlis

(Honorable mention to Casey but tbh I felt Ash carried their dubs a little due to Casey's serve)
