Re: Aussie in Overseas Challengers

So there are two $10Ks in Jakarta Indonesia in the next two weeks and the only Aussie playing in them is Marisa Gianotti. The draws are pissweak. I really don't know why more Aussies don't go and play in Indonesia? The draws are usually weak, it's very close, it's a cheap place to travel to. The experience and WTA points are there for the taking. I know lots of girls are hanging around Melbourne for AMTs and WC playoff etc. but there are heaps of girls who aren't going to be in the mix there and would benefit from tackling a $10K in Indonesia.

I've often wondered this myself. There are also 25k's in Indonesia scattered around the year which are very weak also - I'd be straight over there. I suppose even the girls who don't have much of a chance of getting anything out of nationals/WC Playoff still just want to be in the mix.

There are also tournaments in Thailand and India.

The Indian tournament is VERY week. First seed is 489, and some NRs got into MD.

Yes but my point is that Indonesia is very close. Considerably closer than India or even Thailand. Jakarta is just over 4 hours from Perth - closer than the east coast of Australia FFS.

Re: Aussie in Overseas Challengers

A good idea. Agree why hang around waiting for a Dec showndown crumb... I suppose the o/s travel might be more expensive for flights, same or less for accommodation?, but also an unknown foreign city... if good match play exposure may be worth it. What's Indo like?

Re: Aussie in Overseas Challengers

Could be a developing partnership? The only other time they played, they made the SF in Brisbane WTA. Impressive!

Also impressive: Ash has 4 ITF doubles titles for the year. 2 $25K, 1 $50K and now a $75+H. She's also on an 8-match streak, all straight set wins!

Ive been to Medan, Indonesia and certainly you may pay a little more flights, but accomodation is so cheap. 5 star hotels for $70/night

The heat is an issue, but if you can acclimatise yourself with the Asian humidity and become comfortable in such a country then the amount of tournaments and the way our $ goes so very far then I believe it could be a rewarding place to play in.

There's more to life than just being happy.

Re: Aussie in Overseas Challengers

Casey pulled out of Dubai this week. Her QF in Toyota was enough to ensure she would get DE in to Melbourne, and her last few tournaments she hasn't seemed to interested so probably a good move.

Yep I think her and Rogowska are both in the same boat here....very flat towards the end of the year as a result of no real break during the year and a very tough lead up to the start of 2012.... Casey has the added bonus of not having to play the wildcard playoff now so can relax, unwind and do a nice 3-4 week block of fitness and training sessions to help prepare her for Hopman Cup, ? and the AO.

Good luck to the West Aussies in 2013!:
