15 year old Marina Erakovic cruised into the semifinals of the ASB Bank International with a 6-2 6-2 victory over Australian Lisa D'Amelio.

The young Aucklander looks more and more composed as the tournament progresses. "I didn't think I played as well as yesterday but I'm feeling really confident. . . the crowd has been great . . . the tournament has been great".

Erakovic groundstrokes were once again solid but it was her consistant first serve and deft volleys that were a welcome step up from her second round victory.

In the semifinals Erakovic will play top seed and defending champion Lauren Breadmore from Australia who overcame compatriot Nicole Kriz in the match of the tournament.

Breadmore won the first set 6-2 but from then on it was trench warfare as the two Australians slugged it out. Kriz won a tense second set tiebreak 7-5 after Breadmore was clearly affected by a dubious linecall at 5-4 in her favour.

The final set was any ones and both players squandered two match points before Breadmore clinched the match 6-2 6-7(5) 7-5.

Slipping quietly through the bottom half of the draw is second seed Chia-Jung Chuang from Taiwan. The 19 year old has only dropped nine games in six sets at the tournament after an easy 6-3 6-2 win only Cassandra Barr from Australia.

Her opponent on Saturday will be Cindy Watson from Australia. The former top 200 player won a topsy turvy battle against Shelley Stephens from New Zealand 6-1 2-6 7-5

Singles Quarterfinals

1 Lauren Breadmore(AUS) bt 5 Nicole Kriz(AUS) 6-2 6-7(5) 7-5
WC Marina Erakovic(NZL) bt Lisa D'Amelio(AUS) 6-2 6-2
2 Chia-Jung Chuang(TPE) bt 8 Cassandra Barr(AUS) 6-3 6-2
7 Cindy Watson(AUS) bt 3 Shelley Stephens(NZL) 6-1 2-6 7-5

Go girls!!
Hope to see a Watson vs Breadmore final.

Cindy is really showing TS that she deserved an Aus Open WC (esp over girls like Giltinan)
It's a pity they can't turn back time. Surely they realise now that they made some dumb decisions.

We will miss you Kim!.

Im glad Lauren won but would have like to have seen kriz win that match anyway over and done with now so good luck loz. Though D'Amelio would have done a bit better but has got her season of to a ok start here. Barr, i thought that score was a bit disapointing on her behalf but thats just my opinion. Great to see Cindy there in the last four with a solid win over a potentialy tough opponent. Looks like some great tennis ahead tomorrow.

Great tounry for the aussies

Watson beat Breadmore in the final

and

Van elden (and stephens) beat Kriz and hewson in the final

certainly an easy field but good to see lots of aussies in action and gaining valuable experince, points and money

Wish a few other aussies would of made the trip over . . it aint that far away . . oh well almost time to concentrate on our own challengers again
