Omighad. It is aftermidnight and I just got home from a grueling and FABULOUS 12 hour day of tennis. Quite possibly the best tennis day of my life.

Here's who I saw in a nutshell:
Navratilova/Kuznetsova d Pasqual/Suarez
JenCap d Meghann
Carlos d Ginepri
Chanda d Justine
Scrhipan d Martin

Okay, I have told you all about the Ticket Nazis at the Nasdaq (not you Linnie!)...well last night I was working with a ticket Fairy who told me she was doing the day shift and would let me sit wherever I wanted. Of course it was a dream come true and I took her up on the offer. I sat right behind the baseline in the 4th row. I was in heaven! (the only problem being that other ticket Nazi's were going to relive her in an hour so I had to stay seated for the next 5 hours and I nearly peed my pants. I kept thinking, if Patty Hearst could be locked up in a dark closet all day and not wet herself I could surely enjoy some wonderful tennis and hold my damn bladder in check...sorry!)

I got to the box seats towards the end of the first set of te Navratilova/Sveta doubles match. This was a thriller. Martina is so incredibly fit for ANY age and I felt she could run circles around everyone else on court.

The first set tie break was so exciting. The whole crowd was behind Martina and she and Sveta hit some great shots to take it 9-7. Everyone was playing such high quality tennis that of course the second set went to a breaker as well. Pascual/Suarez rallied from behind and took this 7-5. Now I know most people had shown up to see the Jen/Meg match but nobody was complaining about the doubs taking so long. We all wanted Martina to pull it out and it was becoming a dramatic endurance test. The thing about Martina is her volleys are wonderful and her forward movement is great but you can see where she is a step slow going side to side or shuffling backwards. Also her serve is usually around 84 mph, which is not a problem in doubles.

Martina and Sveta stayed strong and took the third set 6-3. Pascual/Suarez got broken and never recovered. They have an annoying habit of stoping to speak to one another after EVERY point. It takes up too much time. They are the top team so i guess it works, but c'mon ladies...doesn't it get old?

After a standing ovation for Martina, Jen + Meg hit the court. I was so nervous. I knew Meg was playing incredible tennis and that she had a great chance to knock out my fabulous JenCap.

Jen came out firing and went up 2-0. This made me more nervous cause it seems she can never hold a lead and I prefer her to play even (yeah I am crazy). Of course Meg picked up where she left off with Venus and won the next 5 games in a row. Meg's serve was clicking at around 110 mph and she was playing solid, agressive backcourt tennis. A few errors had creeped into Jen's game but she cleaned them up to move within a game of evening the set, 5-4. This next game was a marathon. It went back and forth at deuce and I think jen saved about 4 or 5 set points. This is where I like Jen. Digging in deep and fighting. After about 15 mins Meg pulled it out and won the first set 6-4, in about an hour.

The second set was another dramatic marathon and must have been an hour and 10 mins. I was on the edge of my seat (literally since the new ticket Nazi had shown up and I could not leave the box seats. I was thinking about bringing Depends diapers next time I sneak in!). I started to tell myself, jen is not going to win, so sit back and enjoy this lovely match. But I was freaking out. Jen finally got a lead in the second set and went up 5-3. Meg held strong and won at least 2 games in a row. i honestly don't remember the rest of this set because i was so hyped up. Inevitably the ended up in a tiebreaker, which i beleive Jen lead 6-3. meg saved 2 set points and jen finally broke through 7-5. it was my second breaker of the day. Jen and Meg took a bathroom bbreak and that was my cue. I decided to make a mad dash out of the box seats past the new ticket Nazi and take a much needed leak. Oh relief! Luckily I smiled at the ticket checker and low and behold, she let me back in...another ticket fairy. Yay!

When the thrid set began, i was still telling myself "jen probably won't win so don't freak out". I always say prepare for the worst and you won't be disappointed (it never works). Jen seemed much more focused and she went up 3-1. Her serve wasn't working too well, so she was spinning some 80 mph'ers just to get it in. She was also getting angry with herself and I thought that was a good sign, she wanted this match. Meg obiously wanted it as well, but her error tally went up quite a bit in the third. Jen was able to protect her serve and that was the match 6-4. Obviously there was more to the third set, but I was so high on adrenaline that I don't even remember. It was thrilling and one of the best matches, if not the best, that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing in person.

Oh what a day.

Since I was working the night shift and had 2 hours to kill, I decided to stay put and watch the Moya/Ginepri show. Both these guys are gorgeous, an added bonus. Well I was treated to another match that went 2 and a half hours. Ginepri is quick and will be in the top 15 in a year or less. Wonderful player. Moya runs around his backhand like crazy. I saw my third and fourth tie breakers of the day in this match.

I reported for duty, after blowing off the pre-shift meeting (this old man, who is very nice, makes the same 15 min speech every night encouraging the ticket nazis....bore, bore bore). I was excited to see Chanda/Justine and I thought it was going to be another marathon since Chanda had been in such fine form. I was right about Chanda's form and that is about it. This match went so fast, I think everyone was shocked. chanda just contolled all the rallies. She was so tough off the ground. justine seemed flat and I have no clue why. I was very, very surprised that Chanda's average serve is about 79 mph (although placed and spun well) and she hit several in the 60's!! Why Justine didn't eat these up is beyond me. I swear she only hit 2 return winners off these franciose durr serves! Kudos to Chanda for a marvelous match. I felt bad for Justine as the whole crowd was behind Rubin, she has such a great comeback story, you cannot help but support her. Even though the match only took an hour, I was emotionally fried from jenCap and wanted to go home.

But no! I was in for yet another tiebreaker. Srichaphan beat Martin 6-3, 6-7, 7-5. I was rooting for the old coot Martin, but was so exhausted I could barely clap. since I was ushering I had to stand and I hardly remember the match. Oy.

Up for today.....
Serena and Kim!!! First match. This should be GREAT!!! I hope I can find another ticket fairy, but I think i will be in the nosebleds unless i volenteer to work.
Then Costa/Federer and....
Andre and Younes! That should be a thrilla!

And of course my one and only JenCap plays the night match against Chanda. Go Jen!
